John, thanks for looking.

I so wish i was heading out west with you guys - I had plans on going and was trying to get the best price on airfare, but ended up waiting too long. I was at 450 round trip last thursday, I checked friday....750 then yesterday...931...

maybe next year.

I know you guys will have a blast.

Didn't look back all your photos, but did they overlap weld an outer long rocker on the bus?

John , the previous owner had the bus "restored" about 8 years ago and they just beat in themetal and lapped it with new metal, tacked it and smoothed it with filler.. When I purchased the bus i was not aware of the crapy work. It was not until I started taking the interior out that I noticed the spot welds.

My Jan 56 camper has the same wood bracing screwed into the bus.
It gives the long panel some support. They didn't use the J channel till later. The microbuses have metal tabs welded in to keep the bottom edge of the interior panels from flopping towards the metal wall in between the uprights.

When we took it apart I marked where each piece went. There was more under the panel behind the cargo doors.

The corner panel looks pristine!

Very nice, I just learned something new about Westys again. I didnt realize that they installed those attachment blocks/spacers along the floor and over the wheelwells for the panels to have a nice attachment point. Very Happy

I carefully removed the rear rubber mat and this material was under it. Not sure what kind of material it is. Question

I believe that is burlap or some other similar material like someone already suggested.

It's og and helps hold water and rots the rear deck on 58 and earlier westys. Why they did not just use the rubber mat is beyond me. It's not like you need the extra cushion b/c your not sleeping in that area.

Sound deadening?

I thought it was felt.

I cut strips of 1/8" adhesive foam foil faced duct insulation to fill the gaps below my rear deck hardboard panel from Clara.

This stuff:

Levels the deck really nicely. Here is the end result:

Might work for your application as well.

I think Greg is right, it appears to be woven felt. Fortunately the majority of mine is in good shape. I will still need to try and source some for a small repair.

John, I really like the material u used.

Why was that hole hacked into the sidewall? PO-hack? I bet that made the engine annoyingly louder.
