I think he's going to assemble it on his grand piano.
Think he's not? _________________ Looking for SO34 parts.

Paul & I had a productive weekend doing metal work on the 56.
He brought some window surrounds that just wasn't up to snuff so I bought a parts bus as we will be needing it.
We started early in the mornings & finished late both days, but it seems time flies when you get to work side by side with your buddies.
After inspecting the fatigued metal in the cargo floor, the decision was made to cut it out.
Here's a few pics.
In the last pic you can see the lower luggage area panel looks a bit crispy, that will need addressed.
The pillars were braced really solid before we cut the pillars & the floor out.
I hope Paul is as happy as I am with this rebuild. I think it's going to turn out really good! _________________ Looking for SO34 parts.

I can't say enough great things about Jerry and his attention to detail. I had a great weekend working beside him. He never stops. I had to remind him it was time to eat. anyone who knows me....knows I am always thinking about my next meal.
This is Jerry welding in the window sill, I was cutting out the window section on the cargo door.
This is Jerry cutting the short rocker out.
Jerry is a machine, he never stops
Jerry had a new spot welder that we used on the window sills. I was in charge of holding it and Jerry was in charge of pulling the trigger. That thing got heavy in a hurry. _________________ SOUTHERN INTEGRITY AIRCOOLERS

While Jerry is working his magic, I figured I would work on my motor, just finished the build. I have not started it yet, so I am not sure how happy I am with it.

They are NOT cutting out that piece. It is on the inside of the frame rail, not in the wheel well. _________________ "My biggest worry is that when I die, my wife will sell all my parts for what I told her I paid for them"-Jon

Looking great guys. Keep the updates coming.
Paul - I checked but I did not save that piece from the 56 I cut up last year. Almost looks like you could fix the og if you had to? Especially with Jerry's skills... |

Great looking bus Paul. I didn't know you owned another bus. Let me ask you, did you have to cut your case and crank? What other parts did you have to replace in there? |

Manny, thank you. I am super excited to have this one. Jerry is doing all the metal work as you can see.
on the motor, i disassembled it, had the heads reworked, checked all the main bearing and case - lucky for me they were with-in tolerance. I decided to go ahead and have the crank polished. I did notice some wear on the rod bearings, so i purchased new standard/standard rod bearing. I carefully removed each pushrod/lifter and labeled them, lucky for me the cam and lifters were in great shape. I was removing the rings from the pistons and broke one, So Jon (hazetguy) hooked me up with a set of NOS rings. I had the cylinders honed. assembled everything back together and now waiting to fire it up. _________________ SOUTHERN INTEGRITY AIRCOOLERS

that's pretty much what I did with mine, standard standard main and rod bearings, I did get a new set of pistons and cylinders because one of my cylinders had to be smash to pieces because it did not want to come out at the head end, so at that point I figured get new pistons and save the old ones as spares. the cam and lifters were super clean with no wear, so I left that end alone, the heads were also in real good shape, I only had to change one exhaust valve that was leaking when we gave it the air leak test.
Good luck firing that puppy up buddy. |

Thank you everyone, I want to give a big shout out to a fellow westy enthusiast who took his tent pole mount off his bus and sent it to me so I could fabricate one. Thank you so much.
