Ok well I haven't touched the bug for awhile but I bought some fuel line today. Its 5/16ths. My question is what is the best way to run new fuel lines? Whats the best way to keep them from rattling inside the tunnel? I haven't thought this threw real far but I just want some ideas to what others have done. |

Ok so here's how I did my fuel system. Started off by taking the Allen out of the bottom of the tank, the one that allows you to reach the filter. Drilled tapped and screwed in a 3/8s barb fitting
For the return I drilled out a 5/16 barb fitting to fit onto the og line from the tank. Cut the top part off and soldered it on. I don't know how well this will work as the return because at the end of this line it will be dumping it directly back into the pickup I made. I can always add another return if this doesn't work out.
I decided to run the 5/16 aluminum fuel line outside of the car.
AS you can see it was actually fairly easy.
Im using the Subaru fuel filter, and put it in the spot of the charcoal canister.
Lastly im using a cheapo fuel pump. From the tank im using a 3/8 and 100 micron pre fuel filter. I was planning on using a 5/16 pre fuel filter but the guy at the auto parts store sold me a 3/8 filter but it will allow for more flow and I managed to get the fuel line onto the fuel pump so that all worked out well.
I used those little clamps with rubber on them to keep the lines from rattling. Sorry about all the bad pictures |

I was thinking about the cost of everything the other night. Heres how much I have spent so far.
Kennedy flywheel and adapter $230
Intake, filter and maf adapter $25.
Fuel filter $5
Fuel pump $25
Fuel lines aluminum and rubber $40.
Electrical tape and solder and connectors $20
Radiator from a Miata $20.
Vac hose $5.
Spare ej22 engine for parts $65.
I bought an empi breather box for $5 along with two pieces of radiator line for another $5 at a swap meet.
So im just around $450 into this. Id say im doing good so far its running and almost moving on its own weight. It cost me $400 to rebuild the stock 1600cc I was given.
Cheapest suby swap ever?? |

Heres my truss bar I made. Hopefully no more wheel hop.
Now I need a catalytic converter to do my exhaust. _________________ I have learned so much, but yet I still don't know anything because knowing what you don't know is showing you how much you haven't learned.

Did a little more testing the other day. After I got the fans wired had to made sure it worked correctly. Fans turns on at 220 from what my gauge reads which is wrong. They run for about 3 minutes then shutoff... Success Have a few more wires to run then I can be finished with wiring hopefully Fixed my fuel gauge, flipped the wires on the sender
Kinda got my speedo working, cable was slipping in the fitting. The part that spins inside of the gauge was froze up horribly like it was purposely glued in place haha. Just another little update. _________________ I have learned so much, but yet I still don't know anything because knowing what you don't know is showing you how much you haven't learned.

Decided to do the transmission mounts. So while the engine was out I got the exhaust painted with some high temp paint.
I had to make some bolts because I could not find them, they fit the lower adapter holes to the transmission. So while I was doing that I painted the firewall. Looks better doesn't it ?
Need to paint the doors looks weird without them also fenders and rear apron need to be painted. Cant wait!!

This weird box of crap showed up in the mail today Gates timing belt kit, new tensioners, pulleys, and water pump. Thanks to the local Subaru guy for helping me get all the correct stuff I need. Cant work on the car much, last storm ripped part of our roof off. Water got in the house and going to have to move out for awhile until its fixed. Best of all they found asbestos in our house so that's why we have to move out until its cleaned up. So no working on the car for awhile, unless I break into the garage at night to work on it But hey I got shiny parts to look at. _________________ I have learned so much, but yet I still don't know anything because knowing what you don't know is showing you how much you haven't learned.

It would probably be worth finding a way to shield that fuel line up you ran underneath the car. It will not take much for it to get a puncture or snag on something. And then... _________________ 1969 Beetle - "Olive"

Yea that's not a bad idea. Maybe put a plate under the parts that stick down the lowest.

Looks great. If I knew then what I know now, I too would have chosen a SOHC ej motor instead of my DOHC ej20 turbo, would have been much easier. What have you used for the radiator lines from front to rear? Also, just an fyi, my Kennedy Adapter kit was $650.00 so you're ahead with your total cost. _________________ 67 Beetle Build Thread

Ill trade you engines I used some 1.5 inch steel tubing that my buddy had laying around, bent it up with a hf bender. They aren't the prettiest but they will work , I would like to do it with aluminum one day. I got a great deal on my kep kit, glad I found it on cl because I was going to order it new that week. Trying to just spend money on the necessities and I look for the best deals is why I've kept my total so low. That whole got more time than money thing. _________________ I have learned so much, but yet I still don't know anything because knowing what you don't know is showing you how much you haven't learned.

Yes, I hear you on that, I too have way more time than money. I have been working on it for years. I'm at the point where I need to do the coolant lines, hook up the fuel and boost control. _________________ 67 Beetle Build Thread

Sounds like you almost there. Coolant lines seem like a big deal at first but once you are doing them they aren't that bad. Same with the fuel system. Do you have a build thread? _________________ I have learned so much, but yet I still don't know anything because knowing what you don't know is showing you how much you haven't learned.
