We just wanted to fill everyone in on what has been keeping us so busy over the past year and a half. We have been in negotiations with Art Thraen to purchase all of Air Cooled Engineering's equipment and assets. We reached an agreement and are now the owners and operators of Blackline Racing LLC. Justin has been working at ACE since 2008 and will continue to perform all of the engine and trans building, machining and service for Blackline Racing. Dave Hogarth has worked at ACE since 2005 and will still be performing all of the top notch carburetor work that ACE was known for. Colton will be leaving his current employment and running the business side of things to get work moving through better. We are currently working on a website that we hope to be up and functioning inside 3 months and we do have a facebook page if you would like to follow us on their.
This has been a dream of ours since we first started working together at our local VW shop 7 years ago. That dream only intensified when we saw what we could do with both of us working together on our Bonneville projects. We consider ourselves amazingly lucky to have this chance to make our obsessive hobby into our own business. We truly appreciate all the support everybody has given us; here in the forums, buying our lifters and inserts and of course out at the Salt.
We are very excited to start this new chapter in our story and are looking forward to what this means to the future of our Bonneville racing.
Thank you everyone,
Justin and Colton McAllister

Do you know what Art is planning to do after the sale is complete?
Cheers,

Art will be running his HVAC company. He will no longer be running a VW business. All the fine quality work that was done at ACE will still be done here at Blackline, by the same people that did it for Art. Our goal for this business is to provide the same quality work with smoother workflow and better customer service. |

Wow that's great news!!!!! I hope that the whole McAllister family will enjoy themselves with this new business adventure. I also wish Art all the best in his semi-retirement. I know that I for 1 will support Blackline in this endeavor. _________________ 71 Westy Roadcow

Maybe you should consider teaming up with the guy(s) on the other side of the wall. That could be a killer company.

The website is down for a bit. The address will most likely change as well. We are working on a more, business oriented type of site. As far as hooking up with aircooled.net, we are definitely going to be working closely with him. We consider John a friend and we look forward to doing a lot of business with him. |

Sorry to see Art go, but congrats on the buy and good luck. Learned of the news through the updated classified ad here - may be a good idea to have this thread moved to the engine/trans forum - more fitting IMO _________________ Travis

Team Blackline- after meeting you at the bend in the Road party last September, I could tell you guys really have the disease, the sickness, the obsession, whatever you wish to call it. I hope you absolutely explode the business, and I'm sure you will. Art was known for his crafstmanship, I'm still running a set of IDAs he reworked for me back in 1999, I call it "he blessed them with Holy Gas" lol
Good luck to you, you certainly have my support and backing, for what little that's worth... _________________ 2003 Samba Chummie Winner- Best Story

My 2˘.
Art rebuilt my IDAs and built my 2180. When I see AirCooled Engineering (ACE) I hear Art Thraen. Art's meticulous attention to detail, his spotless workshop and easy access via email and phone will be hard to duplicate. But knowing that the crew is staying on means the tools are there for you to continue.
I wish you the best of luck and remember, you're only as good as your last customer.
As a moderator, i'd suggest that this be moved to the engine forum. If you want it moved... just PM me and i'll do it. _________________ Glenn

I've seen the work these guys do and used their products racing. There is no doubt in my mind they have the same mindset as Art when it comes to meticulous attention to detail. Justin and Colton are also 2 of the most driven young men it has ever been my pleasure to meet. I'm sure ACE will continue for many years to come and even step it up a notch as far as service to their customers.
