After welding , I use a cut off wheel and lightly grind weld and only weld ! The key is to try and get panel and patch panel ground to same thickness . Then lightly hammer and dolly weld to get shape back into panel . Then grind with new 50 grit 3.0 inch disk on hand held 90 degree grinder. after weld disappears I start metal finishing panel . hammer / dolly / vixon file. Hope that helps !!

Applause Nice work. I have been pounding & filing metal for a few years & you have some serious skills. I had a boss that taught me at the beginning of my craft that this is fun, not hard work. He also never used any body fillers. The guys he learned from called the guys who used lead "butchers" Nice stuff, thanks for showing us.

Because I have a few ghias in the shop with rear end damage , I needed a good pattern of the shape on rear of car. I decide to use my black coupe . The rear had the least damage. To start I had to make a pinch clamp to fit into seal channel. Bought the NOS panel to give me a idea of shape on engine bay section. The over rider supports pushed into lower panel , and was next to fix. And final shape is close enough till I get a nice deck lid to fit car.

Been toy'n around with new bumper concept , Kinda take'n idea's from early corvette's , Buick riveria's , 55-56 chevy's and through'n it all in the mix. Going to raise rear bumper up and in line with side trim ! Some thing that always bug'd me ! Side trim is to high on car by a inch or so to me.

Again Applause The shot of the back of your car on the stands, reminds me of a school desk. Great work. What time do classes begin?

When you get a chance would you show how you get from the top picture to the bottom picture. I'm sure it's not a quick process but maybe just a few tips to help us out.

(last two steps)?

i have been having a heck of a time getting my welds ground down as smooth as this. it's so tempting to take a 40 grit flap disc on a variable grinder, but it warps so quickly.

do you have a sanding disc on an air tool or drill?

i see your file - that looks like the last step, no?

Thanks! Smile
After I finish tig welding with .023 Dia rod I use a die grinder with cut off wheel and lightly grind till weld is gone, I do not grind metal , JUST weld. Try'n to get everything to the same thickness before I start hammer / dolly'n .

I sure hope you would consider making some metal parts for type 3 ghias.
