Quality job sir! Is that masking tape you are using to create your pattern?
Yes it is . I use low tack spray adhesive first. I spray the panel I am trying to reproduce first. Then go over with cheap masking tape ,With the sticky side up . Then go over one more pass with tape sticky side down in a cross hatch pattern. Now I can peel off and transfer to new metal and start shape'n

Got a little project make'n a couple lowlight fender tops for a customer. First I start off makeing a flexable pattern to transfer to 20 gauge piece of steel I will be shape'n new parts and the rest are roughed out pieces that I need to finish turning leading edge next to headlight bucket.

I sure hope you would consider making some metal parts for type 3 ghias.
That would not be a problem , Just need the donner section to copy.

Whats cool about the tape deal , You can turn it inside out and use to make the other side if its missing and you can not make pattern from it. I use to just use thin paper and where you gathered it was a good sign where shrinks are going to be.

yeah, that was why we were doing that. I had the great pleasure of working with a old panel beater & we were tasked to build a one off car from pictures, customer had some pieces & the rest we made. copy one side to make the other. He also did a trick where he would roll tires over flat sheet metal to start a shape, (he also drank a lot) he would yell out the shop door that I was rolling the tire to fast.

Yep . . . cool! Cool
I also very much like that you placed the scoops closer to the upper edge of the lid!

Thanks for the reply!

Did you use an annealing technique on the ghia panel at all? Also When you make a dome shaped piece , is one of the compound angles worked out first or do you have to do one part of the compound bend a little and then switch to the other compound bend?

I do not anneal the metal . When shape'n the metal , I am just working everything at the same time . It is hard to describe on a keyboard . constantly moveing around panel shrinking and stretching and wheeling
