|
|
Hello,
i got this skinny coil thinking of using it for my split.. but further checking show that this is not even close to being ok for mine...
date stamp 1B (jan 1946? )
non star coil butt.. but the rest of the details are there. (click on the pics for bigger version. a lot bigger actually )
Is this correct for a 1946 VW ? i will not need it so it might end up in the classifieds, but i don't want to represent something that's not. I won't mind getting a real price range for it.
Thank you.

I actually have a 130watt generator, stamped as a "B" too, but it seems unlikely that it is from '46. Bosch also. Makes me wonder if Bosch used different sets of date stamps for some reason.... _________________ John Henry

even my family said "man, go test that piece of scrap... aren't you curious? "
well i guess i will try to find if a motorcycle battery or a 6v charger can be used.
the price is serious considering it being untested... but compared to a star coil.. i think is near. at least is better than the infamous "make offer price" , i always entertained offers and accepted the realistic ones. i am not getting rich, my split was rebuilt selling parts, and buying parts for it, for which i wasn't always paying just a few bucks. _________________ 1960 1200 model 117 deluxe ragtop

ok, 1:52 in the night... i am at home testing coils...
the result for the 1946 coil.
the spark is weak because the buzz you hear is the fan from an old PC power supply, and the voltage output is 5v.

Bosch used several different date code sets. From 1920 =A to 1944 = Z. 1945 =A (again)to 1963= U when they stopped for some reason before getting to Z. In January 1964 they went with a three digit code no alphas. The three digit code is now in its 2nd revision as of 2016. _________________ Roads Scholar &
