Rear chrome is done. This was the last thing to do that I was afraid of. Every thing else left is going to be smooth sailing.

What a great car! The satisfaction of doing so much of it with your own hands must feel amazing! My hat's off to you, sir! |

Hey thanks 56TIMOTEO! It's been rewarding but can't wait to show it off.
Got some more done. These are the original seats and door panels. My wife knew these red seatbelts would look sweet! I have some seat material coming to wrap the cross member as was originally done.

I'd like to thank my new friend Bob (ashley1) for generously donating his passenger seat cover to my project. My driver's seat was original but had a couple small seam splits on the bottom cushion. Bob is also restoring his 63 vert which had a nice passenger seat but the rest was too worn to save, so he carefully removed it and shipped it to me. We have also been trading tips and photos to help each other since our cars are a month apart in production and virtually twins it helps to compare notes. Here is my "new" driver's seat
My 52 year old front seats.

Well my car is done and I brought it to its first car show today. It was tri-chevy show/swap in my town so it was a nice short trip. Had some early rain so the turnout wasn't great. Got a lot of positive attention. So far I've driven it about 100 miles and it runs and drives like a new car.

Thanks, I put some more miles on it. So far it's been a blast to drive. Just put in a nice 019 distributor. Had a little faint surging while holding speeds around 55-60. Not sure if it's ignition or carb related yet. The 019 should help narrow it down. I might need to fine tune the jetting also. _________________ '63 Karmann Cabriolet L456 Rubin (Ruby Red)

Well done. Beautiful vert! I'm sure you're loving the attention!
Get use to lots of attention BTW.. When I drive my 69 vert, you'd think I was driving a Ferrari w/the looks, smiles, waves, etc.. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Very nice car Dave. Very Nice indeed. I am working on a '63 ruby red now thats fully original but the driver's seat back is torn. Did you happen to run across any other K357 silver beige leatherette interior? Also when you cleaned up the seats were there brown spots and what look like stains on them and if so were you able to get them off?
Thanks for the info.

I have found when you have that kind of discoloring in the vinyl, it is ingrained into the vinyl and it's not coming out! But you can try the Blechwhite. |

Hey thanks, Soupcups..Mine does have those rust colored spots on the seat backs. I couldn't get them off but I didn't try too hard because I'm afraid of damaging them. They show the originality of the interior so I'm not real concerned with it. I have some of that seat material you could use to patch that tear in your seat if you want let me know. _________________ '63 Karmann Cabriolet L456 Rubin (Ruby Red)
