Looking nice Dave.
I noticed you did the fender beading red. Also the rain tray red. Nice touch.
No one ever does the fender beading the color of the car like OG. looks great. |

Thanks, Rain tray was red originally, at least on mine it was. Not sure what years they were black but mine was in original paint so I went back with that. _________________ '63 Karmann Cabriolet L456 Rubin (Ruby Red)

I'm re-using the lower original sound deadener padding which is a little brittle but will be glued down and mostly hidden. Also added a little of Eastwood's to the luggage area. I'll post up some "after " pics when its all glued down. _________________ '63 Karmann Cabriolet L456 Rubin (Ruby Red)

Great job, Dave - very well done!
The engine looks absolutely cool - you've inspired me now to break the top end of my engine apart, powder coat and clean all parts, to make it look tidy - like yours.
Are you keeping it 6v or is it converted to 12v? Your generator seems to be a skinny one (90mm), however based on the engine specs I doubted if you'd run it on 6v. _________________ Vlad [ 1962 RHD Oz Vert resto ] |

found this nice accessory light and connected it to the dome light circuit so it lights when the doors open or with the dome light switch. It will illuminate the Bambus tray and foot well area.

It's been a while, but here are some current pics. Pan halves are from a donor chassis I had in good shape so these are og VW pans. I also retained the original tar boards. Sand blaster didn't even mar them, just masked and painted around them.

Nice to see you posting again on the project. Nice Dave it's going to be a great car.
I see I'm not the only one saving the tunnel sound deadner. |

some more update pics, re-painted original steering wheel in silver beige, fitting up new hinge covers from Chuck's, and rear area sound deadener...some new, some re-used.

Why exactly did you keep the tunnel tar wrap? I'm about to rip mine off, but I've seen a few people now keeping it... Wondering if there's a specific reason. _________________ Yet another person with a '66 project: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=526418 |

Because you cannot find it and there's no reason to tear it off if it's in good shape. The only thing under it is nice clean paint. _________________ '63 Karmann Cabriolet L456 Rubin (Ruby Red)

Your right, I have to stop adding things to it until then.
Here are some updates.. Found some og BOGE rear shocks, cleaned them up and shot some satin clear to brighten the original brown paint. Getting the brake lines and cables in. Found a plate frame from the original dealer where it was sold... 1963 YOM plates.. Packers fans will like these!

Beautiful car, the anticipation of driving it must be killing you! I'm stoked that you're using as much original stuff as possible (tunnel and rear seat insulation, etc). I'm afraid the day will come when all the surviving cars will be with old TMI interiors and repop everything, and people won't even know how the cars were! Kudos to you, sir!! |
