These are the NEW 2.0 version as far as I know. Talk about Quality Control.
Anyway, I know I know. Shouldn't have bought EMPI, yea Dave we know how ya feel.
The venturi was in backwards. LOL
The image is just reference for others,
"Why you should check your carbs before bolting them on"
Technician Scribe on the bottom = Fail...

You are referencing the butterfly plates not venturi..... Venturi are on top of carb and only fit one way....
There is noting wrong with HPMX carbs, I run them and find them no different than Webers..... Like anything now a days, inspect, clean and adjust before assembly no matter who is parts provider and what brand name is.... Most stuff sucks right out of the box...

Never had a problem with Empi carbs either, but the venturi being upside down is kind of funny. Both sets of my 48IDFs had issues with loose screws and jets, the floats weren't even close and some crud in the bowls, so Empi isn't alone in having issues.

I do mean the Main Venturi. Look in the upper left of the pic I posted, you can see the hard edge that should be at the bottom. I thought they only went in one way too. I removed the top of the carb, pulled the pump jet and loosened the set screw and pulled the venturi out and popped it right back in. What kills me is there are scribe marks on the bottom that indicate a human being did something to them and missed it. I guess were are all human though.
I haven't check the floats yet, I had a six pack of Blue Moon in me and didn't want to do more harm than good. The carbs had a faint smell of gas that indicated the test run. |

Yep it's warped all to hell.
Mark, I was already wondering about that.
One carb has 8/19/12-21 scribed on the bottom, The other has 8/19/12-22 on the bottom.
I was hoping they both had 21's on the bottom, I was hoping that meant that Art Thraen had calibrated them. Like Free-mason code or something. You know 21 is an Ace. But I dont think Art would warp the ship out the Venturi and install it backwards. |

It's warped becasue there is no hole or recess for the set screw to go into, to hold the vent tight in the carb body.

I beleave that screw would be on the other side of the warp.hmm wonder was it a speed warp or a time warp? |

Too much speed, not enough time during assembly Always time to do it twice though eh?????

Yes, you are correct. Once I put the Venturi in correctly I could see the dimples for the set screw. |
