We finished installing the glass.
BTW, for a 1965 Bug with a 4" chop and doing the quarter windows the way I did, you can use an oval window seal and it fits perfectly. So, I used 3 Oval window seals. And for the windshield, an oval windshield seal also works perfect for the 4" chopped 1965 windshield.
For the doors we used the one piece window kit seals. They don't fully cover but we had no other idea.
The door glass and quarter windows had to be cut from new glass because tempered glass can not be cut. Therefore they are all laminated glass.
For having a windshield cut, and having the door and quarter windows cut from new laminated glass I paid $250. Not bad I'd say.

I hear a little bit of back-fire. Any ideas of what can be causing this?

Was that by design or was it a "happy accident"? Cool either way. I always wondered how it was done. |

Was that by design or was it a "happy accident"? Cool either way. I always wondered how it was done. |

That looks like a really fun project, and it turned out great! I'm not a big fan of most VW based rat rods, and a few minor things on yours jump out at me as not fitting the otherwise sleek design, but I certainly respect the work you put into the car. That body is really a versatile part that could take on many different looks, and pull off each of those looks well. I bet you'll have a blast once it's finished and you get to drive it all over the place!

Absolutely LOVE the car. Your attention to detail is top notch. 2 things come to me though. It really needs a "W" lid to define the back of the car, the late lid is too plain. And have you considered different coloured wheels? There is too much black and they don't look right to me, they just disappear. Or even 2 tone them. But hey, it's your vision and you built a beautiful car. Would like to see a head on shot.

Thanks for the compliments.
The wheels are not done yet. They need to be powdercoated, white letters whitened and Im going to put chrome center moons. The exhaust tips need to be cut and move in. The tail lights need to be installed and wired. The engine needs to be cleaned/dressed up. The seats need upholstery. The rear carpet needs installed. The lid, looks fine to me, and its all that matters, the W lid its money and I've spend enough. Maybe someday when somebody donates me a W lid I'll put one on.

I don't think the decklid is all that big of an issue (you can add a W lid later on), the first and main thing that stands out to me is the headlights. I'm sure you probably have a law about the height of them, but it sure would look the part more if they were a little lower (to cover the beam), and/or larger in diameter to fill the void there...Like so:
A peep mirror would be another cool addition, but as mentioned, it's your car and it still looks good, even as it sits now.
Good call on the exhaust tips. What taillights do you plan to run, and where will they be mounted?

If I move the lights lower they would be in the way of the trunk or to cover the beam would make them way too low. I would of had to move them further forward and thats not something I wanted.
Here is a front view.
I was going to do the peep mirrors but then changed my mind because I did not want to cut the door frame again. Plus it would make it permanent and I would not be able to remove them if I did not want them anymore.
These are the lights.

I like the headlights and their placement. Any bigger and they would look awkward. Glad to see you kept the shocks in the front. Like the tailights also.
Have you seen the peep mirros that clamp into the seal channel on the doors? I got them for my 57 but wish I wouldn't have mounted the one on the passengers side, it's pretty much useless.
Is that a Longacre steering wheel?

No I have not seen the peep mirrors that clamp into the seal channel. Do you have any pictures you can post? And where can you get them?
The steering wheel is custom hand made. Made by the owner of "The Volksrod Shop". I still have to finish it and get it powder coated.
I didn't know what a Longacre steering wheel where, so I looked them up. They are nice. I like 'em. Too late now.
