I only hate crapy work! This one is starting off top notch. Just don't get in a hurry and botch it up. I struggle with myself and when I catch myself getting In a hurry I have I put it down, go in and have glass of what ever suits me and start again the next day.
If I had time I would love to build one but after I finish my 59 I think I'm going to drive and enjoy. Don't have enough good days left in me to start another project. Keep it up! |
I hate crappy work too! Dont worry my "OCD" will make sure it gets done right.

Since last update... We removed all the fender nuts, welded shut the windshield heater vent, extended the steering shaft and added a super beetle u-joint shaft, minor welding here and there.
Today we installed adjusters on the front beat, removed the shift rod and polished it o remove surface rust, installed new rod busshing and shift rod coupler.
The front sits about 1" from the ground right now. I want to raise it a couple of inches, I dont want to mess up the pan going over speed bumps. Now for some pics.

My .02 worth.
1. Narrow the beam
2. Cut off and smooth the shock towers (won't need them...) also cut off and smooth the lower shock mounts on lower control arms
3. Flip tie rod ends (at wheel)
Other than that looks pretty cool! |

Very nice work. I disagree I thi Katherine front end is perfect and the rear tires should be taller and not as wide. Definitely nailed the chop on this one. _________________ Ovals are Overrated.....Click to view image

This weekend we worked on the car some more. Worked on filing in the wheel well cut out left by extending the front 8". We aligned the doors, grind a couple of welds and began fixing the rear wheel well cut outs.
We ran into an issue caused by the grafting of the oval window. We must have leaned in the window some and it caused a gap between the decklid and the rear vents under the oval. We figured a way to make it look good.
Here are some pictures.
The metal still needs a little massaging but im happy with the look. It keeps the original latch in place, which is something I wanted.
Here you can see how much we had to raise the decklid to close the gap between the decklid and the body edge.
Here I marked where to cut to fix the minor problem (its in pencil, so it hard to see). I want to have the latch and a frame for the decklid, thats why I had to fix this and not cut it off.
Here are the cuts. Its actually not bad at all. And the lines flows. Next week we'll fill in the gaps.

LOOKING GREAT!
You need to find a W deck lid for it! The extra lines and shape to the W lid will really add a lot of character to the rear appearance of the car especially since you won’t be running fenders. The W deck lid sort of defines the edges and contours better then the latter lid. _________________ Mother Nature is a Mean Evil Bitch! |
