Hi everyone. I 'm in the process of restoring a '70 Ghia. Unfortunately the car came with no bumpers or brackets. I will be bracing the body shortly with cross members across the doors and body in preparation for lifting the body for the pan replacement.
I would like to also create some handles at the front and the rear of vehicle to help lift and move the car around. I want to use the stock bumpers locations to do so.
My questions are. Are the bumper mounts sturdy enough to withstand the lift if the car is braced?? and What size steel bar stock should i use that would fit in the front and rear stock bumper bracket locations?

I've done a few searches but haven't located these specifics and help would be greatly appreciated.

Your bumper brackets look a lot like these...

Once your body is on a rolling dolly its light and easy to roll around w/o handles. Bigger wheels on dolly make it eaiser, 4 - 6in wheels. I had no trouble moving mine around solo. Is your work area concrete? 4 people makes it very easy to remove bodyfrom pan. Better to not have bumper brackets or anything in the way for your bodywork and sanding in my opinion.

Thanks, those are the correct brackets.

I will also be transporting the body with a trailer to a blaster and a body shop. Just thought it would be easier to have carry handles instead of lifting the body by the fenders or other body part.

When I needed it moved on a trailer...I put down a few 4x4's as a base to tie down on. With my trailer set up I could place my dolly on the front so when i got to destination I could drop body on dolly and still be mobile. The body is really not too heavy.
