I sold mine recently, but enjoyed building it.
Spikes Tactical Lower
DPMS lower parts kit
DPMS solid A2 stock
Prince 50 mag lock
Watsons extended takedown pin
Stag Arms 20" A4 upper w/removable iron sights
I will say that Stag Arms makes excellent quality pieces. I fired MANY rounds (including shitty Wolf rounds), and never had a single jam, short stroke, or extractor failure. It pays to have quality mags too otherwise you might run into feeding issues. Who made your lower?

What's the point of building your own from parts? Is it cheaper, or just so you can get exactly what you think you want?

One reason is you can't buy one in some states, but you can build it as a kit. Second is the reason you mention. _________________

Not cheaper to build it yourself.

Not having much need to actually kill anything or anybody, I have given some thought to building my own Taser. |

I haven't worked out the details yet, but the concept involves darts, a blow gun, and a very long 110v extension cord. |

Not a doubt in my mind the blow gun part will work perfectly with you on the business end.. |

I decided to build my own for a number of reasons.
1. You can select exactly what parts you use to make it "your own".
2. I managed to shop around for the best deal on what parts I wanted, saving money.
3. I love building shit.
Now keep in mind that I purchased the entire upper receiver/barrel complete. The upper reciever is where all of the "real" assembly takes place. That's where you have the reciever, barrel, gas system, bolt/carrier group... ect. These parts must be assembled very precisely, and I'm not a gun smith.
My work consisted of installing the lower parts kit into the lower reciever(trigger group, bolt catch, mag release, grip, buffer stop..ect.), installing the buffer tube/stock, and then mating the upper/lower. The Stag Arms upper, and Spikes lower fit together perfectly; not a bit of play anywhere. It was smoooooth. _________________ - Marc M.

I have a semi-local VW buddy that builds AR's, but I have not done so myself. I guess I am intimidated by the construction. Maybe I shouldn't be. _________________ nothing |

I built a kickass stungun-fired potato launcher but that's about as close as I have gotten to fabricating weaponry. It was a blast to make and is a kick to fire. Not sure I would feel comfortable building my own firearm. |

For those that are intimidated about building their own AR, don't be. If you can adjust your valves, you can build an AR. The hardest part that I remember was installing the roll pins for the bolt catch, and trigger well. I was just being careful and didn't want to scratch the crap out of the reciever. Buy the upper reciever complete, and everything will go together like cake. _________________ - Marc M.

No numbers? When you buy a stripped lower it still has serial numbers. You buy the lower, ship it to your local gun dealer, and they handle the D.R.O.S./registration. Unless of course you buy it out of somebody's trunk . _________________ - Marc M.

When you buy an 80 percent complete lower receiver and complete it yourself, there is no serial number required .
It is completely legal to do so as long as you do not sell the rifle to someone else. |

Ok, so after searching through several dealers, I have acquired all parts necessary. it wasnt easy, most places are sold out of everything but my tenacity has scored me everything i need to build a CA legal AR for under 900 bucks. im surprised i was able to do so in this time.
My lower is in FFL lockdown til the 15th. ( i actually bought 2 for future builds) my upper should be here in about 4-6 weeks and my lower kit is on the way as we speak. magazines and bullet button arrived this week.
Now i got to suck it up and crap a bunch of money for ammo. about 75 cents a round is the cheapest i found in bulk. OUCH!
My lowers: MAG tactical lightweight ( new company) and a palmetto state armory |
