Read the responses on this thread. I'd like to build a BJ beam from scratch. I have the tools and materials, but don't have the measurements to cut the tubing to length. Anyone know the length of a 2" narrowed BJ beam? I read somewhere that the stock BJ beam measures 34 1/4", so 2" narrowed should be 32 1/4" does that sound about correct? Thanks.

Correct.
Thanks Airkewld. I've had a chance to browse your site and really like your beams, but unfortunately they're a little out of my budget. I haven't ruled out purchasing one though. I figured I'd take a stab at trying to build one. The shock towers will be a challenge though. I looked at the ones that comes with your beams and love your attention to detail. What gauge sheet metal are the made from? I have 1/4" sheet metal I planned on using for my towers. Will that work? Again, thanks for the responses.

We use 3/16" steel for our towers. 1/4 is fine but trying to fit that in with a 4" will be tough. 2" no problem.

I'm sorry as I know this has been gone over before but I cant seem to find anything that answers my specific question. I will be lowering my 71 Ghia with 2.5" drop spindles and link adjusters. I will be running the factory wheels and tires. How narrow of a beam will I have to go with for this set-up? I am not sure how low I want to go with the adjusters yet but no matter what I will be running stock wheels and tires. Let me know what you all think.

Thanks!!!

I know this is an old thread, but, did the 2 inch narrowed beam work? I'm only asking here, as I've got a 66 Ghia vert, and I've got a set of 2.5 inch dropped spindles to use, along with running the 165-80-15 tires up front, and I wanted to know IF the 2 inch narrowing was enough to fit everything and allow the tires not to rub. Or, do I need to go 3 inches? I'm just asking, as I have no experience with narrowed beams. Shocked

A little more info, the spindles add a 1/4 inch per side (CIP), and it's got a set of wide 5 rivieras on it. The rear has just been converted to short axles as well.

WOW, nobody can help me with this? Shocked I really didn't want to start a new thread, and going thru 10 pages of narrowing threads didn't give me the result I was looking for (either people were using Fuchs, or stock rims, or something else), or the tire sizes were different from the application I wanted to use. Rolling Eyes

Maybe I should just scrap this Ghia project, and get something else. Shocked

there are too many variables...I learned modifying a ghia's height is a trial and error money pit.

good luck

Yeah, after pouring over more threads than I really wanted to look at, I think 3 inches is what I'm looking at doing. Now I just have to find a 3 inch narrowed sway bar, and tie rods. d'oh!

It's not really lowering it so much, as it's not wanting to kill the ride. Right now it's got little smart tires on stock smoothie rims, and it rides like crap. At least with the 165-80's it'll soak up the bumps some, but up front I don't think there's enough room to keep the stock sized tires (tall bastards), and be able to turn, due to the rim offset. I really don't want to rub on the outer wheel well lip. I figured putting on the drop spindles would give it a little drop (to help level it out), but keep some of the ride.
I might just have to see about finding some 145-80's to use instead. Rolling Eyes
