Wanted to run a tall, 31"-32" tall tire .. on this rim.
Figured we would "tub" it out to run those Big tires.
Finshed up the tub and built a package tray,

Went and got a tire, 31"inch tall tire, we put it on to get an idea of how it would look.
Ripped out the IRS and bought a beefer trans. to run the tires also made the change to a swing axle to make it lower..Going to get some 4.5 drop Spring Plates and do a 2-4 inch Trans Raise.
This is where we hope to be next week.

WOW... That is AWESOME! Good Luck. What gear ratio are you going to run with those tires? Wish you the best. |

I'll find out the exact gear ratios, the transmission builder is a guy that used to drag race locally here in Texas. He builds for some of the local shops in south Texas.
I just let him know what size tires and engine I was running and he asked if I was planning on some street racing, I told him probably not too much and he built the trans. _________________ Only one life, it will soon be past, only what's done for Christ will last. |

Chop looks good but that rear window needs to get scaled down, it looks far too large in comparison to the rest of the windows. _________________ Formerly known in the forums as "OVALTEEN"

It might be the way I took some of the pictures..
The chop is a Capella Chop and it leaves the rear window the same … you cut from the pillars and move the whole roof forward. I was thinking about a “mail” slot rear window but we’ll see. _________________ Only one life, it will soon be past, only what's done for Christ will last. |

I'm aware it is a Capella chop and the main problem with a Capella chop on a bug ( especially a late model bug) is the rear window ends up being disproportionate to the rest if the windows. If you cut a section of the rear window out horizontally and slid the upper half of the rear window down and filled the gap now left above the rear window it will slim it down and make everything proportionate. That's just my preference though and who really cares honestly as long as your happy with the look. I like when all the windows are basically the same size proportionately , it gives a nice level and even feeling to a chop on a bug.
Regardless of my stupid opinion it looks great !!!!! Can't wait to do mine, have 3 other projects in line first. _________________ Formerly known in the forums as "OVALTEEN"

I was wondering about the chop and out of all I have seen this chop seems to be the easiest. Are you going for getting the windows to go up and down.
Wondering, I can't see it in the photos but if you move the front foward and down you get a space between the front and rear. Right??? If you do do you use another top to fit between the front and rear space.
I love rat rods and Volks rods, I have no idea if running with out fenders in NY or NJ is legal.
IN any case love your work and design. _________________ email: [email protected]

I understand what you’re saying; I don’t think your opinion is stupid … that’s just your preference.
I really didn’t want to cut the rear window due to getting the glass cut. I called around to ask about getting tempered glass cut and I’ve been told that you cannot cut tempered glass if it’s not flat. So with the rear window being bowed, I would have to use something else.
3 Projects!! WOW!!
I learned my lesson with more than one project … at least for me it starts to feel like I’m not getting things done… _________________ Only one life, it will soon be past, only what's done for Christ will last. |
