I was wondering about the chop and out of all I have seen this chop seems to be the easiest. Are you going for getting the windows to go up and down. |
Yes, I want to keep everything functional, windows, wipers, everything if it all possible.

Wondering, I can't see it in the photos but if you move the front foward and down you get a space between the front and rear. Right??? If you do do you use another top to fit between the front and rear space. |
No you don't need another roof. I can e-mail some pictures if you like.

Did some more work on it yesterday... sorry for the crapping pics. Fabed the front and rear trans mounts, mocked everything up to make sure it's going to work. We went with a 5 inch raise.
Was hoping to have the axles back in and the tires back on but we have to still have to fab the drop spring plates.
We had to untack the package tray and raise it.
I went to thank my buddy with the shop, he took a work day off to just work the the Volksrod!!!!
Hoping to make some time and work some more on it next week. _________________ Only one life, it will soon be past, only what's done for Christ will last. |

No nothing new,
That buddy that was helping me got really busy but we're hoping to get back on it soon...
One of the things that were trying to do is keep the decklid but as of right now they way it sits we won't be able to run a decklid. That was another issue that we were trying to figure out. _________________ Only one life, it will soon be past, only what's done for Christ will last. |

Yea.... Sucks...
Touched base with him yesterday he’s been super busy at his REAL job. I had purchased a beefed up trans. to run the 31” tall tires and we need to put the axles back in it. SO hoping to swing by his shop and pick the trans. and axles and get that at least done.
We'll see .... _________________ Only one life, it will soon be past, only what's done for Christ will last. |

Well it's been a LONG while!
I want to get back to my build … I haven’t given up!
But since the buddy of mine has no time I need to make an effort to “push” forward!
But I have a couple of questions. I hope you guys can lead me in the right direction.
First I was persuaded to convert from IRS to Swing Axle for the build, in the process of this I dealt out some cash to beef up a swing axle trans. to run the BIG tires for the build. Now I need to know what does it take to do the conversion. I have the trans, short axles and everything else to do the conversion but how do I go about reinstalling everything onto an IRS pan?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance!! _________________ Only one life, it will soon be past, only what's done for Christ will last. |

First off nice build. UMMM IRS to swing(?) Should be a direct fit. I have gone from swing to IRS & now I am retracing the steps. The spring plates maybe different. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

That's awesome!! I really am I big time novice so just wanted to make sure that there's no surprises.
Next question converting from 4 lug to 5 lug … was originally going to use some adapters but he talked me into converting over to 5 lug from 4 lug.
Is this just a bolt on application or are there some modifications involved? _________________ Only one life, it will soon be past, only what's done for Christ will last. |

Convert swing to IRS.. search the off road forums.. very popular conversion.
Its not big deal if you have the parts and the idea. The biggest issue is welding the inner arm pivot in just the right spot without causing toe and camber issues.
As for 4 lug to 5 lug..
Rear = Buy the conversion drums to take full advantage of the wide IRS rear shoes. They will increase track width slightly.

Front = 66-67 front drums and transfer your bearings and seals..

Thats the easiest way.. (but not the only way)

Thanks for all the responses, I really appreciate it!
Another question I had is I didn’t want to lose the deck lid but with the current trans. raise it looks like I won’t be able to run one.
Is there another way to go lower without have to sacrifice the deck lid? _________________ Only one life, it will soon be past, only what's done for Christ will last. |
