bought the car as is ....but gonna do some "mild" things to it...

heat is not as good as alot of guys are getting. and since this is gonna be a daily driver i need to get the heat better. thermostat and flaps are gone along with preheat hose ( though i can't find where to hook it up on mine ?)

will eventually step the displacement up a little not want ing to go bigger than 1904cc

has cheap coil overs on it right now.....need to find a reasonably priced replacement for those...

31x10.50 on the back.

factory seats out of something ....can't identify them right off hand if anyone else could it would be nice as i might try to cram another set in the rear

want to add a light bar and rack on the roof along with a winch

more than likely i will have the entire car sprayed with rino liner

rancho tranny being order to put in in the spring
currently swing axle but i see that you can change it to irs without replacing the transmission just changing out parts

:::::::pics::::::::
interior....like i said gotta figure out where those seats came from

you can see the "heater hoses" in this one they are shop vac hoses the one on the passanger side is long enough that i added one of my vac hose attachments to it and hung it on the factory grab handle for a temp defrost

want to move the light on the bottom of the bar possibly flipp them upside down since the main beams are right behind them

If that's a '68, that's a good, one year only swing axle (with 4 lug).. save it for something else or sell it.

yeah i found that out last night about it being a one year car...(thanks to some reading i was doing on this site so much good info here)..was telling my buddy how i hate it was cut up and all...... so im kinda in limbo about it now. i really don't think i will sell it unless i get a really nice offer on it

problem with selling it is that here in kentucky not many people think they are worth much..... guy offered to buy it from me at a gas station once "was gonna give me top dollar" for it $2200. yeah .....right.

when i say mild i mean like stepping up to Bilstein Shocks shocks instead of the cheap coil overs that are on it and replacing / upgradeing bushings trans mount maybe a 1904 to put in it later.....gonna keep the motor and trans thats in it and "shelf them" for later

this bug will not be jumped ....mudded...or the likes. when i get off road it will be slow going easy trails to get off the black top and see things that would take you forever to hike to.

""Black Mountain is managed by the Harlan County Outdoor Recreation Board Authority and has over 6,000 acres of mountainous terrain (elevations up to 3,300 feet) with over 200 miles of marked and rated trails. They have beginner, intermediate and extreme rated trails available for the riding enthusiast. Trail maps are available and there is primitive camping. Best of all, there are no fees or permits required to ride. The riding area is open all day year-round.""

somewhere like that where the trails are kept up and one could keep from tearing up your vehicle....buddy of mine grew up near one close to here and said they took a 2 wheel drive ranger out there and said some trails where basically gravel roads......

For what you are wanting to do with it, it's perfect. Plenty of guys run swing axles, it's just when you get into wanting more travel and stuff the IRS starts to be a better choice.

I'd raise the front end a little, and go play.....

1500 or 1600....guy i bought it from didn't know anything about the car...nor did he try to find out and 1600 pistons can be bolted on a 1500 its hard to tell

Well, if that's the car's original engine, which it kind of looks like with the dual snorkle air cleaner, and it's not a dual port, and the intake diameter is fairly large, it is at least based upon the 1500. You could check the numbers below the generator stand and see.

1600 pistons will fit, but it's probably a 1500, if I had to guess...

yeah i looked into all that when i got it. runs strong and looks like the guy that put it together replaced a bit of stuff.....kid i bought it from got it and just started it up in the driveway and drove it around the neighborhood every so often....for a year and a half.

i would say 1500 also but i add the / 1600 because it might be stepped up. need to measure the pistons, but i have no desire to take it apart since it does run so well

Ok. I was just curious. I got a similar setup in the frankenbaja and been thinking of going to a 30 inch tire. Wondering how's the performance.

well things took a turn for the worse....no running lights all of a sudden checked all fuses they are good..........

4th went out also, so it looks like i am going to start pulling the trans axle, i knew this was going to happen and have already looked into getting something from rancho...

i'm going to trace down the wiring issue while it is out and clean up the trunk compartment, the guy that put it together added another fuse bus and relays for the head lights and such but has it looking like a rats nest of wires.

also while working on it as the sun was going down i done something, and the generator isn't powering the car anymore, when i turn the battery disconnect off behind the passenger seat the car dies now. Sad

that something was seeing if i could run a wire from where the gen connects by the firewall (picture 5 the block that is on the fire wall driver side in pic) to power the running lights when the gen is working.....basically i ran it straight off the gen to the lights and it done nothing when i started the car, so i removed it and left it as it was before i started fooling with it and now the gen doesn't seem to be putting power back into the system.......

will take photos for Pafree while i have the truck opened up

the four way connectors that just hand inside the engine compartment on either side of the motor kind bother me.....need to find a way to mount them or get rid of them altogether.

any advice on adding more relays or better ways to wire it up would be welcomed. i know it is a simple system as is but want to make it easier to trouble shoot if an issue arises again. and less wires in the system makes it cleaner and easier.

was thinking of putting in rhino mounts....

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

or fabbing something up....or is there a reasonable solid mount kit out there?

stock 1600cc
clutch feels real solid at moment going to newer style T/O , Mike at Rancho actually talked me out of the kennedy 1700 clutch and pressure plate. was thinking about replacing / upgrading while i had it all apart. but his advice was to leave the stock clutch in till i go up in displacement......

should i have went ahead and gotten it anyways ? seems odd that he advised me not spend more money was going to add hd hockey stick and new input shaft and clutch to order, but given my current application he felt it would be wasted money at the time....of course i took his advice
