|
|
I recently picked up a 64 sedan and where it was stored, 1 side was obviously prone to being in a sprinklers path as the passenger side has water spots all over the paint and chrome.
I've been unable to wash them out really at all, and I was hoping to get some advice on the best way to get them out before I wax the car for the first time, as well as what will work to clean up the hubcaps too.
I tried to search the forums but I only found something like 7 years old and thought I would look for some up to date input. thanks!~ |

I've always heard that vinegar will take the spots right off. I've never had the occasion to test it. |

Any acid, weak or strong. The weaker it is the longer its gonna take.
Soak a towel in vinegar and press it against the areas that are stained. 15m or so should be long enough. |

I watched a youtube video about CLR cleaner. the guy was removing the surface rust, but aren't water spots calcium? Seams like it might work. |

Be careful what you use.
Once you use something strong on metal and put scratches in it the only way to repair is to rechrome.
As far as the paint and windows it depends if the water spots are on the top or etched into the paint. Never park by sprinklers!!!
Depending on the severity of the water spot.
You can read more about that on the autogeek.net forums...

An acid may work but in some cases a heavy paint polishing is needed and sometimes wet sanding and polishing is needed. |

74 Thing that link is great, thank you!
Based on the detailed breakdown of the types of water spots, it would appear that mine are type 3 so I'll give the claying a shot as recommended on that forum. |
