Cool kit, but I think I read somewhere the final asking price will be 20K. 3K is withing reach of many, 5K the market shrinks, 7K and it better be close to assembled, 20K and you are targeting the wrong group of folks..... In my opinion.

Thus; why many projects end up as one-offs. Nice build, though.

Some of you may recall what happened the last time I licked a VW.

Regarding price, from the FB page comes this note:

Quote:
Rob and I think we need to sell the first 5 bodies to people who are willing to pay in full 10k each, this will fund our tooling cost. These collector cars will be worth a lot in the future for those who are willing to take a chance on us. Anyone in ?

and this:

Quote:
kit includes working doors and front deck lid, glass windshield, removable lexan side glass, door handles, hinges, mirrors and rear lexan window and tonnue cover. body will be paint shop ready, you do your own color.

And a picture of it at a local show:

The Smisek Stark made a couple of magazines this month:

And a note from the builder:

Quote:
I am doing my best to put the Stark into production. Its a massive undertaking for a garage project on a shoestring budget. I don't want to get rich from it, I just want to see them on the road. I Thank You all for your support and patience. ~Brandon.

$10k for the first 5 bodies. You might want to really, REALLY work on that price. You are going to price yourself right out of the market.

Consider for a second that the Factory 5 818R starts at 10k for a body/chassis kit. Yes you still need a donor car and if you are handy with tools there is no reason it cant be driving for 20k. This is for new tech not old.

Unfortunately this car while very cool, will not be a collectors car. No more then any other "limited" production kit car.

I like it,but not the $$. so whats new?? ridgeline?? avalanch?/ not realy.my wife has a element, this would be nice right next to it. or next to my 356 replica.hmm a second life for my baja!! with AC of corse. I would knock a mold off the element befor I could afford that.and make it a truck style single cab or 4 seater truck style.with a little more aero than the honda.

I'm not in market research, and don't know what the Stark should end up costing, but because we're on a VW site, here are cost comparisons-

Meyers Manxter 2+2...Bare bones $5895....Standard kit $7995.

Manxter Dualsport.......Basic Kit.....$8545

Kickout Manx Traditional................$4700

Kickout S S Manx..........................$5700

I haven't checked other types of kits, but since Brandon Smisek relates the Stark to a baja, comparing prices to Bruces kits seems appropriate.
BTW, I absolutely love the Stark....and would definitely buy one at the right price (If I had any money Laughing ) Great design Brandon!

... many people have gone to the website. Price didn't change - still seeking 5 first-adopters at ~ $10k/Each.

My take, after saying; "I like it.", is that it lacks major elements to becoming an iconic break thru ..like the Manx.

Modern power plant - I would have picked an engine that turns on 20-somethings; Subie, Honda, 1.8T

A design that could not generate comments like; "However it does kinda look like a scaled down Honda Ridgeline." It needs to be fresh enough to be copied ..not derivative.

It encapsulates the driver/passenger. People drive something 'this different' to be noticed, to take credit, to be in the Sun, etc.

Having said, you have to give him a tons of credit for the quality of his results. I like it.

Jim

just enjoy it for what it is...a 1 off that you designed and built and that's probably all it will be..

If you think its the next big thing...you should put it up on ebay or some other big auto auction and sell it to fund the start up of the company...

If its meant to be you'll make 50k off that one and then you'll have your money....if it sells for 5k then you've learned another lesson....
