Hey how are you? New guy to the forum here. Bought a 67 and have been cleaning it up and upgrading some things here and there. One of which are the headlights. I bought some e codes to replace the sealed beams but they don't fit the buckets. The three "tabs" on the light housing interfere with them seating properly.
Am I missing something here or do I have the wrong encodes maybe? I purchased from Rally Lights which I've seen mentioned here before.
Thanks for any help you could offer! |

Sealed beam lamps have those same 3 lugs to make sure they are installed right side up. Should not be any different for E-code lamps. I've retrofitted Hella Euro 7" H4 assemblies on several Bugs and T3s, and the lugs are all the same.
Post some pics and maybe we can find out what's wrong. |

Thanks and will do. I'm going to go take the assembly apart again and snag some pics. |

You can see the metal lugs on these Hella lamps:
They do the same indexing function as on the glass lugs cast into the original sealed beam units:

Ok gotcha and that's exactly what both my E codes and sealed beams look like. I was able to get one light in but those tabs don't seem to fit properly. 2 of the tabs sat in the bucket properly and the 3rd didn't quite sit right. The headlight is in, stable, & working so I'm ok with that but it doesn't seem right.
2 tabs sitting correctly:
3rd slightly off:

I would bet the housing is tweaked, perhaps to fit the notoriously sloppy fit of the cheap, old sealed beams. |

Hmm, doesn't look tweaked. I'm going to slap the other side in and see how fitment is there. Thanks for the advice. |

Just some closure on this. Put the pass. side light in and it did fit the bucket but the rubber backing did not. I believe this is because the bucket is a different year (PO rear-ended someone and the hood and fender were replaced). But, it's in and working.
On the hunt for some proper '67 buckets so the lights will be right. Thanks for the help. |
