i will bet you it is the cam gear rivets |
Well if it is these "rivets" if I remove my muffler / pulley / pulley tin and the oil pump, WILL I have access to those bolts via the oil pump hole if I rotate the engine by hand so I SHOULD be able to tighen them?
( if they are bolts )
Another clue- it's starting to sound more and more like a Diesel engine.
I've had 5 people in a days ask if I put a diesel motor in...
this is all assuming only if someone put in a cam with bolts in its old life.
If so.. Ill do that saturday _________________ (Owner) www.vintagecarleds.com

Yea if your lucky it is loose bolts but more than likely it is a stock 3 rivet cam and you will have to tear it down to replace. (when i did mine the other day i pulled the oil pump 1st and prayed for loose bolts for it was an 1915 that mofoco built, but it had a stock 3 rivet cam in it ) |

Pulling the engine this weekend.
Cracking the case and inspecting.

Its the right thing to do.

I have.
It was to check:
End-play
Possible loose flywheel? (none)
Put the engine on a stand and have a mechanic check for the noise (unable to locate)
At that time, I didn't know that the cam gear could be the issues.
Anyways. my bottom end is due for a rebuild, ive just kept pushing it off _________________ (Owner) www.vintagecarleds.com

Think the issue of the noise is everything...
So Pulled the motor this weekend to crack the case.
Glad I did.
Oil Baffle installed wrong...
Here is whats Odd, This is a VW case, Stock oil pump too.
Everything inside the case is VW marked, and the bearings are standard size.
There was no sealant on the case half's so I assume this is a virgin case that was never cracked open!?
Toasty main bearings.
It appears the bearing "slammed" its own markings into the case.
Getting the case line bore, seeing that everything inside is stock the case has never been opened or line bore.
Just a new rod to compare it with (im not installing these)
My #2 rod was bent out of shape. Weird.
#2 rod bearing.
BRAND NEW (not reground) VW Crank And Rods!
Waiting for the case to come back from the shop for line bore, full Flow cut, and washed.
Waiting for a new Cam and lifters to come in the mail. _________________ (Owner) www.vintagecarleds.com
