The official thread for my newly acquired '59 swivel seat kombi. Some may know this bus, others may not. I'd like to thank Russ for letting me keep this project at his place until I can get it running and find a suitable spot for it. Next, John Pickens for delivery and parts sourcing. Then, Nick G. for motivation and helping work on the bus. Lance is also helpful, but he tends to skip out and go out on dates with females when he should be hang'n with the guys.

I don't think those rims will be so good for the trailbash.

Made some progress on the beam this week. Took apart the front end to clean, and take the spindles off. Spindles will be shipped out and rebuilt.

really dirty, but it will clean up, no structure damage or rot. Beam is good!

Are you going to do the center pin while you have the beam out?

It'd be easier to do while it's out, it's not expensive, and along with other components will go a long way towards proper steering.

I removed some patches, and started going to town on it. The spot welds on the frame were small, they came up using a small pry-bar. I need to get a spot weld remover tool to get the rest of the welds off. I also had to cut around the e-brake, someone in the past put some monster welds on it. Something is not right with it.

Looks good Dan. Seems like there wasn't a lot of other rust hiding under the floor.

Yeah, it was nice a dry under there.

Lance, when are we going to Hard Times? I need some chili-mac and chicken wings.

I'm in a continued state of readiness.

Also I have a spot weld drill bit you can try/use if you want. I'm not sure it's the best kind though. It's this kind:

I bought the spot weld remover drill bit off of harbor freight. It was $4.50.

The bit in the pics is a better choice than the HF one. Sure it is pricey. But it is much easier to control and there is less chance of the bit continuing into metal you don't want/have to mess with. Either one of them work best using a starter point using a center punch.

Watch out on the HF bit. They are very brittle and will break at the drop of a hat. Make sure you have lots of spares.

x2...the HF bits don't last very long. I got a set from the Snap-On man, and they were great.

Great bus!
