hi all
i've just done a search in the forums for 'bertie' and i've been reading through all the posts and replies that i did when i was younger and it was actually quite touching to read what i used to say and what people replied.
i used to come on here a lot but after i left college and started work i didn't really have the time, i also started keeping in touch on the Volkszone forum on what's happening over here in the UK.
it's been a couple of months now since i crashed what will probably the best bug i'll ever had, that car meant so much to me, so i thought i'd at least post something because i got to know a lot of you by your forum name on here. looking through my old posts made me remember how many people i actually remembered!
unfortunately bertie is un-repairable, i got quotes in the region of £5000-£7000 and i don't have money like that, and besides a lot of people said it would've been unsafe to fix him as he's all twisted up.
for those that don't know, the latest with bertie is that he's going to be made into a trailer! i can't just get rid of him, there's too many memories, but at least if he's a trailer he can still come to all the shows!
i've got another bug now, and all of berties carpets, matting, switches, speedo are all in my new bug (called dory) so it actually feels like bertie inside! she's also got bertie's 1600 engine fitted so he's sort of had a heart transplant and as for bertie, rach is having his passenger door for her bug, but all the wings, engine lid, rear seats, rear bumper, and wheels have all been put away ready to be put on bertie the trailer!
i really just wanted to post something to let you all know what's going on. i've got a new website now too...
www.freewebs.com/dorybeetle
where bertie will be making a few appearances as the trailer gets built in the summer. here's a couple of random pics.
hope y'all are ok!
carl.

Oh, man, I just saw the bad news. I'm so sorry. Glad to see Bertie will live again. Quite a story and should be real interesting at the shows when you show up with Dory and Bertie. Good luck! |
