Lucky you are OK. I have often been in that situation (driving down a clear curb lane when the left lane is stopped) and I always get a bad feeling that someone or something is going to pop out of that line...your experience will stay in mind now every time I do that.

sorry to hear about what happened to you and your car. i got hit by a suburban in my 2001 new beetle about 2 years ago and it held up really well. ended up being $8000 in damage, but the car was still drivable. i had it fixed and am still driving the car daily now. it was in the shop for over a month though. i wanted to seriously beat down the lady that hit me. again sorry to hear about your car, please let us know when you get a new one! take care.

Alway sad to lose a car, but it can be replaced. You can't.
The old style hubcaps looked really sweet on it. Maybe you can do that again.

I'm originally from the Toledo Area (Maumee). In San Francisco now. I don't miss the bitter cold, but Ohio is tops for friendly people.

hehe, Glad you like the look of the centercaps, because I was able to get me another set of steel wheels, and already have the caps mounted on "Growler" my new TDI.

I am refinishing the roof rack over the wintertime and this spring I plan on doing a two-tone similiar to my avatar. Lots of plans for the future of my newest buggy!

I will be on the blood thinners for at least the next year,

as of right now the big vein in my leg has a cork (read: clot) in it that goes from my knee to my hip. mother nature has to run its course (will bore a hole thru the clot) in that time and hopefully i will get about 50-60% of my blood flow back through that vein. in the meantime, the little veins along the surface of my leg are expanding to take up the slack from the big one.

and after I get off the blood thinners in a year, my lawyer and I will be going after the taxi company for reimbursement of the almost $50,000 in medical bills, plus a month and a half of lost wages, plus a little pain N suffering on top of all of that....

for now, all is good, I am back to work, I can drive my bug, and I am living my life like every day is a blessing. because for me, it is.

Aaron

The new wheels look great on the car!
Very "VW" if you know what I mean.
Excellent.
I'm glad you're doing well, too.

Very similar to what happened with me in my 72 super beetle... only my 72 super seemed to protect me quite a bit more than you! almost 2 years later i still have a "clot" in my leg... guess it's a calcium deposit now, that will probably be there in some form forever... DOn't think I had anywhere near $50k in doctors bills... maybe 10 or 15k

glad you're ok! My beetle stil plans to be on the road again someday Very Happy she's tucked away nicely in the garage waiting to have some work done to her.

dont get me wrong, at the time of the accident, I was protected very well.
the clot turned up as a complication a month & a half later, which put me in the hospital for a week.
