Ok so I have had this since October just wanted to share with you all.
I hope I post the pics right. First time....
This is when we brought her home.
Had the pan sand blasted after a couple nights of trying to get it clean, then I gave up and paid someone.
2x1" for the outter rail. for got how thick the floor is.
This is the proposed head light. I think it would look good. It will have a projector head light in it with an LED strip where the orange is.
2" trans raise.
Put the kids seats in it so they can drive. |

Looked like a nice buggy to start from and you and the boys should be having a lot of fun in it soon. _________________ "The simplest of outdoor adventures - the most treasured memories." - Bruce Meyers

Love it! Another garage build with all of the "normal" stuff a garage should have, clutter and all. Is it on a full pan now? It looks longer on the final picture. I've never had a swing axle, but I thought I've read the seam is not supposed to be straight up, either at 10 o'clock or 2 o'clock, not sure the technical reason why.
You and the kids are going to make lots of memories in it. Have fun!

Thanks for the interest guys. The boots on the axle are the ones the PO put on so I have not changed them yet, but I believe you are right, they should not be straight up. When I got the buggy ( not sure if I can call it a Manx since the purist might burn me at the stake for calling it that) it is what I call a 20/20. It looks good from 20 feet and if it is passing you at 20 MPH. The PO said just put a motor in it and go.... Never mind the hole in the brake line, or the floor that was held together by JB weld. But I must say the JB weld did a surprisingly good job. I have a lot of crazy ideas that you just don't see on these so we will see how long it takes to get it there. |

Do you have a projector in mind yet? I would highly recommend the Hella Hi/Low projector. They are pretty much the best thing for retro/custom installs. You can find them on Amazon any day of the week. A bit pricey but not terrible. |

There is definitely not much room in the fender But these are also not the rims and tires I want to run, these are just rollers for now. I did a 2" narrow on the beam. But I don't think you can tell with these rims. I got the rims at Bug-O-Rama last time round and the PO said he had the off set messed with. Honestly I have no idea what he did to them, I just know that they work for what I need now. I would like to do auto cross with the car so I will prob keep these rims and get some sticky tires for them to use for that. I think in the end I will lean closer to the 135's to give me room in the fender, and raise it up a bit. Thanks for the info on projector model to use. I have done some research, but not to much. I did see another thread where the guy put them in but he extended the front lip down. Saw that at Bug-O-Rama and I'll tell you that you really appreciate a car more when you can read a build thread and see how much work goes into it. |

Working on the headlights.
Projector headlights with amber LED rings.
I will also have and amber LED "eye brow" once I get it all done.
It has taken me forever to just get this far. I had to cut alot of the material off the headlight just to get it to fit, but I think it will be one of a kind once its done.
I will also be ordering my Subaru motor about mid November. So that will be fun.

Ok here it is. I decided to pull the trigger and get the EJ 20 from a 98 WRX STI (280hp). At least that's what all the evidence points to. Its a JDM motor that I bought in Sacramento. They did a compression test on it and it was all good. Also I did the old once over looking at turbo, oil, spark plugs, timing belt, ect. So I know you will ask how much so here it is. $1,000.00 plus tax and 3% for using a debit card. So what do you get for 1g. Well I got the motor, wiring harness, intercooler, down pipe, and ECU. Now i dont know if i would call it a wiring harness. Its more like they cut all the wires on the motor after the conectors. Also the ECU has the wires coming out of it but they are only about 6" long.
So for now I have a long wish list for parts from Outfront performance. |

Great looking buggy!
Where do you plan on placing the radiator? |

Im thinking the radiator will go behind the rear cargo tray. I will have to see how much room there is once the motor is in. I have done a 2" transmission raise on the car and I have not seen anyone else with this particular set up and how they did it. |

Probably simpler to use aftermarket ECU like Megasquirt than to try and satisfy all the requirements of using Subie ECU and maybe having to get custom harness and ECU reflashed....
Also "Outfront Motorsports" has many solution for what you are trying to do...
For radiator, if you put it into rear, look at 95 Jeep Cherokee... Its about 11 inches tall and 33 inches wide...

Nice project, I put the same motor in my buggy using the EMS Stinger ECU from Outfront Motor Sports. They also sent me the wiring harness to make it plug and play. The turbo boost is amazing.

No intercooler installed yet but I have 2 of them from WRX's and the car is only running stock boost. I've been trying to get the car together so I could drive it this coming summer and it's fast as SH#% already. The intercooler will make me change my intake and I should be able to add it easily next winter. Who knows, maybe I'll get it installed before painting this spring. To many 90 degrees angles but I wanted to see if the motor worked.
Here is a pic of the 90 for adapting the throttle body to fit my car. Some people are using silicone elbows with great success. I have some temporary wiring on the car for lights to make me street legal as I test everything. I've put 27 miles on it and already broke on type 1 cv(now using all type 4) and installed a slosh tank for better fuel delivery.
Now with an intercooler. I still need to fab the mounts for the core but I have to put the tub back on to make sure it fits.

Driftin,
At this point Im going to use the stock inter-cooler from the STI. I think my set up is a little different. I did a 2" transmission raise so I didn't have to worry about camber and lower it at the same time. But this basically will make the engine sit 2" higher. Because of this I'm not sure how that affect the oil sump clearance issues I hear so much about. This also only gives me 11" from the top of the transmission housing to the top of the body. So this now brings up radiator issues. Everyone seams to like the Jeep radiator, but i think I don't have the clearance any more. Also if I use the stock header, turbo location, and inter-cooler location come into play since the inter-cooler will be going through the same spot the radiator will wants to be. So do I do 2x small radiators either side with fans?... This we will have to wait and see. Do you have any videos of your car driving? I would love to "see" how fast it is. I think i will be using the Stinger ECU so I can use the AIM MXL Strada data logging system instead of having a dash full of gauges. Just trying to keep it different. As for boost, I will keep it close to stock. I already have friends who refuse to ride in the car with me when I get it done. Something about it being light weight and a lot of hp. I don't get it. |

My Afco scirocco size double pass radiator is in front of the beam and fits good on the bumper. I wanted the radiator up front to get all the air possible. So far so good, with it and I am using the stock thermostat to help me get the engine up to operating temp. The intercooler is going to go under my rear seat out of sight. I like your idea of leaving the turbo in the stock location and will try that on my next project.
Front mount radiator
The oil pan was chopped by Outfront Motorsports.
I'll get a video when I put the car back together this summer.
