|
|
Pulled my engine today ..I was looking at things and noticed the accelerator cable as it exits the body was rubbing into the upgraded tunnel tranny on the side....its pretty deep and it wants to catch. Was there a metal conduit or something that protects it as it exits the pan? If not..what's your thoughts to remedy this? _________________ 1953 OVAL |

Yes..just like that. Did my 53 have one as standard..or is this something I will have to fashion myself. Not too sure how the one from ww fits from the body pan grommet to the back of the rear engine tin...unless I trim or let it float free? Better than getting hung up into the side of the tunnel tranny! _________________ 1953 OVAL |

I'm going to do just that. ..I noticed that ww says it's for s 66 and up. .. but I'm sssuming this should fit anyway. ....I didn't see anything that was prior to 66 specific..if anyone knows another source please let me know so I can get the correct one for my 53.. thanks again! !!!! _________________ 1953 OVAL |

They were not used on 53s, the wire just ran bare up to the engine.
My understanding is that, in 1966, the accelerator wire became a braided wire instead of a solid wire.
So a solid wire may not move smoothly through the tubing.
But they can work, I added one to my '61 and it works fine. _________________ How to Post Photos

i just ordered the tubing from ww...i hope it works out.. the cable being solid wire and not braided explains how the tranny got that deep cut in the side without ever fraying...thankfully!! Thanks! _________________ 1953 OVAL |

Other people have used solid plastic plumbing tubing, such as the kind one would use to plumb in a refrigerator ice maker. There was also a small wire bridge used by VW attached to the front of the transaxle, which moved the accelerator cable away enough to clear the transaxle.
