Hi All,
Hi Torque starter installed last night.
Pulled apart Type 2 CVs. Two really good ones, one that's okay, and a last one that's done. I'm considering new CVs all around to solve the problem.
Anyone have thoughts to the Type 2 Chinese CVs? I'm not a huge fan due to them being chinese manufacture but its about all that's available. If they are okay then I'll go that way..if not I'll keep cleaning and sorting old ones. I do have all new CV bolts to use. I figured we should have the new strength there.
Is there a Picture limit on the Samba? I seemed to have reached the quota....
Thanks!

If you are all looking for a laugh...here's me with the car ages ago...I can't wait to see it back up and running...The engine was ordered this week from Outfront (Jeremy)and the fuel tank is currently being reworked for fuel injection. Lastly the new and custom gauges from Speedhut / Revolution style are ordered.

I visited the fuel tank people today...its a process and they look to have been doing a good job. the fuel tank, although not pretty yet, is purpose made for this car and has the filler in a certain spot of the cowl.
here's some pictures...
new fuel tank filler installed in old tank...getting ready to prep for coating...
new return for fuel injection
cut for internal cleaning of tank
new lower bung for main feed to fuel pump

Haven't posted in a awhile...
Here's the seats for the dune. Believe it or not they are from a smart car. They look good and fit well. Backing plates through the pan are complete and installed. Only one issue...the seat belt tensioner must be removed off the seats to fit the new roll bar. I dropped off the seats to the interior shop to have them removed Saturday afternoon. They should be done in a week.
More done today on the dune. Figured out we will have to make a few changes in the gas tank before final assembly. The neck is too short and will have to be changed/ lengthened.
Then we installed the engine. No big problems but had to clearance a motor mount on the right passenger side. Loctite on all mounting bolts and checked the motor mounts before assembly. It slid right in! Subaru power! Lots to do yet including electrical, exhaust, cooling, some fabrication, body work and paint, some interior work too. Looks really good though....I like the stance. May be done by summer or at least running
this is a top down pic looking through the top inspection hole...
I like the stance...

Hi all,
quick question...
I mounted the engine in the car and put it on the ground. The Spring plates for the IRS should "just" lift off the stops right? They should not be sitting on the at the lower limit at rest?
Other question. One of the rubber bump stops is missing and the bolt is broken off the arm. I have new stops but should i be concerned about the upper limit? Sounds silly but being a street car i wasn't sure if it was going to be an issue. If it is I'll to extract the broken bolt and reinstall another bump stop mount. Not mind bending but if no issue I'll leave them alone.
Thanks,
Herk |

thanks to all that responded to the other thread on bump stops...that helped!

Also I'm looking for ideas on the gas tank filler we had redone. The filler can only stick out so much to engage the cap BUT what I need to do is make a finishing plate or a grommet ( a thin one!) to take up the roughed in area around the cap. When the cap is on its tough to see around it but over time the cap will rub the paint when finished and I'm sure that's no good...ideas?

Got the rear seat support in. This time I hid the lag bolts in the tunnel and side of underbody in a new piece of 2 x 6 PT that the seat sits on and did away with the L brackets from the last build. I still have a bit of work on the vertical portion of the rear seat once we see the radiator fit. Overall its much more sturdy. the lower PT will be covered in carpet at a later date.
I'll send it out for recover of the seats in the future.
Awaiting the final build on the radiator. This weekend I will fit the tail lights then strip and silver paint the tail light housings.

filler neck is 2.5 inches. the hole is roughly 2 and 5/8 in most spots, maybe a bit more. |

Don't know what sizes they come in but maybe you could use a grommet like they used for the gas fillers on older pickups? The kind that had the fuel tank mounted in the cab? They usually had the filler right behind one of the doors and it was surrounded by a grommet where it came through the body. I'm sure somebody like LMC Truck (I think that's the name) has them. |

I have used the Norton Motorcycle flip cap and a '68 chevy truck filler neck gasket.
