Dude, once the repops hit the market, everyone will have one , just like the Albert mirrors. Repop shit is always trash, cheaply made for tight asses who run after market eveything. I always feel this way. OG PARTS FOR THE PURIST

so what's the big deal ??
first: the pics show a gorgious wheel. second: nearly half of our busses are Columbian made ( Laughing ) 3rd: so many wherever-produced new repro parts wherever you look today. even original Fuchs are non matching stuff to an early transporter.
I am a firm believer in NOS parts or restoring whatever is possible in vintage VWs. But when a part obviously looks to be well made like that, it is just ok !
and they didn't put the Petri or Vw badge in it, so it can be told from an NOS original.
Great repro effort as far as can be seen !
The original wheel is one of the most beautiful parts in a BD anyways, the way the ribbed pattern is split by the elongated indentations - I just love it !
and now let some post 55 cars have a beautiful wheel too instead of the E*** wood crap.
calm down !

I heard from a good source, they are going to strong ( no flex) and look identical to original.. Cool.. You will probably know its a reproduction by how clean and perfect it is!
But I'm like Jimmy, I like OG shit on my cars..

you guys all know there's a point where reproduction will be needed for all the guys is a gotta have OG parts on my bus... what about the lower 12 inches of most of the bus is now a days are all reproduction metal.... and there's nothing wrong with that because sometimes the pursuit in getting a OG parts just takes too long... most people just want to get it driving so they can have fun with it.... I'm sure most of you would agree that if your barndoor was missing the steering wheel and these were available it would be better to have this than having your bus at home and everybody at the show same where's your bus... and you would say i am wateing to find a steering wheel... until then I'll just ride passenger in somebody else's bus

exactly, reproduction steering wheels are like abortions, if you don't need one or want to get one, don't get one.

I just think it's awesome when a repro part, whatever it is, is done so well that you can't tell the difference between it and an NOS part aside from a small ID mark that can't be seen when said part is installed. And if the King has anything to do with this wheel, it will be the best. Shit I might just buy one to hang on the wall.

Seen it, held it and was tempted to put it on my 53 immediately and the OG wheel in storage. Seeing it in person you would think it was NOS (less the petri logo of course).

There will be one for viewing at Bulli Brigade on a freshly finished dove blue highroof I'm told. Can't wait to see it.

x3

I probably would buy one of each color for garage wall art though.

Nothing beats original. I agree that the prices of most Barndoor parts are costly, but if you want to play the Barndoor game, then you have to pay!

Don't listen to me though, I'm just a purist

A couple of you have seen the steering wheels in person.

Whose making them?

I ask because I want one too.

one of the very first wheels was installed on Jason Stratton's blue highroof seen at Bulli, it was out there for the public to see.......I think most people would agree that it was a VERY nice piece, very well done.....I will run them on all my buses, and put my OG wheels away in a safe place.... Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy...as far as all the details...who, what, where, when....those details are still being worked out...stay tuned...

The wheel and horn button are very nice. The plastic sounded like it was very hard when it was tapped on. I thought it was solid steel.

Damn, I was so enthralled with the restoration of that highroof, I totally didn't see the steering wheel.
