|
|
Hey folks,
I put in a VDO tack and the needle will wander around a bit. the higher the rpm the more it wanders
thoughts?
heres a pointless video of it in action. The bug is just cruising, so no RPM should be changin.

TACHOMETER GAUGE QUESTIONS:
Will VDO tachs work with points ignition or Pertronix?
Answer: Yes, with diode in line on the signal lead. Instructions are as follows:
Purchase a diode #1N4005 from a local electronics store such as Radio Shack or Circuit City. Cut both ends of the diode so each is approximately 3/4” long. Crimp 1/4” female spade connector on the end of the diode with the silver band. Crimp butt-splice connector on the other end of the diode. Crimp the opposite end of butt-splice connector to the wire connected to the ignition signal source. Connect 1/4” female spade connector used in #3 above to terminal #4 on the back of the tachometer.
Connect a ground (-) wire to terminal #3. Connect a switched 12-volt power wire to terminal #2. Set switches for appropriate amount of cylinders.

Having a brain fart - basically put a diode in series between the coil - and the lead to the tach with the stripe end of the diode connected to the tach lead? _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone - 63 Short pan,1914.

My understanding is that the VDO tach is quite sensitive to "stray voltage" or "electrical noise".
I don't know if it is worse with a points replacment module or not, but the diode seems to fix the problem. |

Best quote of the day lol. Glad you got it worked out, I will most likely be doing the same this weekend if I can figure out how to get a day off work! _________________ 69 bug 1600sp buckpack ceramic header w mondo muffler, riviera wheels, 185/65 front 205/70 rear, dual baby webers, big stereo in the works.
