Okay, how about an ancient modest-sized RV built by a forklift company? I give you the Clark Cortez. Spotted this one next to a used car lot across town. It's about the size of an LT and definitely exudes some funky charm. More here: http://www.cortezcoach.com/index.php/historical-info/cortez_history/

That Clark is exuding all right, not necessarily charm, maybe Charmin.
Debbiej, the Toyota Dolphins are cute, however typically over weight for the chassis, brakes and drive train. Be careful.
We went the small RV route way before the Westy route, our small RV is only 35', we tow the westy behind it, then we can have a comfortable base camp and head out to the little places in the Westy. Plus we no longer have a sticks n bricks home, our home is our motorhome. It is not camping, it is RVing. Similar but different. You know how when camping the and the weather turns horrible and you have to go home? We just have to go inside.
Different seats for different bottoms. It is all good, just have fun. _________________ Live Fulltime in motorhome

On our recent tri to Sequoia / Kings Canyon we met a couple who owned a 28'er version of this Lazy Daze.. old school RV manufacturer in CA.
I was impressed with fit and finish.
This 24'er with rear dinette/sleeping and wrap around windows looks very appealing for less-than-massive-rig, full-time RVing

My wife and I lived in a 21 foot long RV for 6.5 years, it was awesome, but it was thirsty, when we took it places in the late 90's gas was $1 a gallon though. _________________

RV, covers a lot of ground. We have a pop up tent trailer that I tow with a 1998 E150. Does that count? I've recently been to the Fresno Sportsmobile complex for a mild tour and price quote. _________________ Peace, Regis |

Irony.
In terms of looking at similar smaller RV's, those leaks are something I wouldn't have thought of.
In spite of having had THE most worn out pop top and luggage rack seals ever, there were no leaks at those points, ever.

This is an interesting take on the Westfalia layout...I like the kitchen separated from the living room:

It is very pricey:
"What started its life as a Ford Transit Custom Estate becomes a Nugget after you leave an additional $21,425 at your dealer in Europe for the Westfalia treatment. That means the more powerful camper will set you back $71,760 in Europe." _________________ Joe T.

What a coincidence!
You can get a similarly equipped 25 yr old Syncro Westy from GoWesty for the same price! _________________ - 83.5 Westfalia - 2.2 GoWesty "power"

Thread resurrection.
On a recent trip to Goblin Valley, UT our friends had an ALiner pop up A-frame trailer camper. We liked it very much. On the drive home my wife and I talked about the Westy life and her MS. We stopped at an ALiner dealer in Portland and decided to order one. This weekend I purchased a used Toyota Tacoma 4x4 dbl cab for the much anticipated May delivery of the trailer. I will report back on initial vs. longer term impressions. If the Taco-Liner combo wins out, I will be sad to sell the Westy.
DebbieJ, which camper have you been enjoying the most? |

Those rig are pretty cool!
I am still pondering a lightweight to tow behind the Westy.. but the idea of a slightly more robust drivetrain like the Tacoma has its merits.
Looking forward to hearing more. _________________ -89 GL Westy, SVX.. finally.

Just for fun, here is a photo of my Westy attached to our Casita trailer:
Note the 400# tongue weight just about lifts the front wheels of the Vanagon off the road. I would never tow it with my Van.
I also own a small FourWheel Camper poptop that fits on my Dodge 4 x 4. It's truly rugged but not as much fun to camp in as the Vanagon. I only have it because my Vanagon isn't a Syncro.
My advise: Stick with the Vanagon and don't get too much stuff. The Vanagon makes camping simple! |

the #400 tongue weight is an issue
but you should shorten that tow ball piece, sticks the lever out too far beyond the axle & bumper. _________________

I really only use the receiver on the back of my Van for my bike rack. I pull the Casita with my Dodge truck. The tow ball was only on there for this photo. |

Reviving this old tread again...
Beth and I have been caregivers for her mom for the last 7 1/2 years.
She was able to live with us in what was Beth's childhood home until her passing last month.
Although she had Alzheimer's dementia her time with s was special. She is now free from a body and brain ravaged by arthritis and dementia.
We had been looking to purchase an RV for years. The one rule we had is no wet bathroom. We also wanted a unit that was small enough to not need a tow'd.
We have been impressed by the Leisure Travel Unity RV ever since we first saw them around 2014/15. They are built on the Mercedes 3500 cutaway chassis. It's only 25 ft.
Pre-owned twin bed models in good shape for a fair price do not come up often. It doesn't help that Beth insists on a particular interior color
Anyhow we found our dream in San Diego and are traveling out the end of month to drive it back to Ohio.
Very excited! _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”
