|
Hi Guys,
Took ownership of my 11G project today, not a cheap purchase but a very rare car by all accounts. Few shots below before work begins.
Will definitely need your help with tech advise.
First job is to trace some background and history of model, seems to be Aug 1950 from Chassis and Body numbers.
Also strange wooden spacer behind dome lamp any ideas?

Lots of bits, ragtop, seats, original trim, 5x 16" wheels date stamped, all interior bits - one question;
Should ragtop handle have rib or be smooth? |

Cool,
did you know that a 1950 sunroof have different diameters inside than a later one? I am actually make the matching headliner to the trikotfabric that will go inside the sunroofsection. It will be ready in november. _________________ Hebmüller 581

What part number is on the inside for a Split grooved handle versus an Oval grooved handle? _________________ It all works on paper.

Don't see any wood behind the dome light area in your pics.
There are no records of how many 11Gs were produced. VW did no begin keeping those records until '51. So if you have a '50 11G, you really have to somehow document it as such. I had a Nov '50 11g and had all of the previous registration paperwork from it where it came from in Europe, including the original import papers.... which described it as a "sonnendach" (I think that is the word).
If you have no such paperwork, you should take lots of DETAILED pictures of the sunroof frame from inside the car (to prove that it is not a welded-in sunroof) as well as the front apron body number area (to prove that the the nose and body number were not clipped in).
Looks like a pretty solid project, keep us posted with pics..... _________________ John Henry

Thanks John and Coolparts, car has no welds and front end untouched albeit missing front hood.
Just sent off for birth certificate so that should help with history.
One question to finish with;
Steel fuel tank cap, should it be painted or left natural / lacquered, currently mines rusty painted black.
Thanks again guys |
