About to take shell off any tips welcome, please bit nervous about any potential shell twist or movement especially as ragtop
Heater channels are solid and from and back solid...
1. Leave doors on?
2. Add extra brace?
3. How to support across heater channels ok?
Or am i being a drama queen as I'm told shell is light no issues...? |

Shouldn't you be putting it together so you can work out whats missing? Then make a list and then pull the rest to bits. |

Nath,
Your picture looks instinctively older than mine as logo is almost kdf like and on the right of date stamp whereas mine is on the left and not as crisp.
Any ideas much appreciated, will post some accurate pics as I tear down motor.
Thanks for advice, do you have a 50's block still... |

I don't think its a date stamp but more a part number. I think if it where a date stamp it would be like those on engine cases. They look that way with the ring around the number because they where an insert. It was fitted to the die so as they could change the date etc.
As for the 50 case yes I do. But I did speak to someone whom may be interested that had a kubel as they didn't have and engine yet. |

Lifted shell off my 11G, quite relieved floorpan looks pretty good, wanted to check if anyone knows about gearbox numbers to date the gearbox and also if I should have lever shocks instead of telescopic (on old question but still unsure) - thanks!

Those are casting numbers and part numbers you've shown there; the should be a serial number which I think should be on top of the bell housing near where it mates with the engine. It should tally up with column three here - rear axle number:

I'm not sure on the lever/hydraulic shock question although I know some 51s had hydraulic shocks.
Cheers,

Anyone seen these plates that modify lever shocks to telescopic, is it something cool to keep or return to lever shocks which leads to next question where to buy lever shocks?

Hi Guys,
Engine tear down begins, as many previous posts whats authentic and what not.
Block has no number and seems later cast date but most other bits seems genuine including dead rodent in head and wasp nest in exhaust manifold.
Grateful for any advice / comments;

Definitely a later replacement case. the coil and the regulator (maybe) are later as well, but everything else looks correct. _________________ Chris

I'm sorry to inform you the dead rodent head and wasp nest are not original.
I have owned a few very nice original engines and these parts were not present.
What is that the date stamp on the coil? Maybe 2L? I cannot read it.
The date-stamped thermostat is neat - I have not seen a date stamp there before. _________________ How to Post Photos
