The bracket on that coil is a generic replacement and not a VW part. Makes me suspect of the coil. Can you post a picture of the other end with the terminals?

Definitely a later replacement case. the coil and the regulator (maybe) are later as well, but everything else looks correct.

Regulator should have a date code too....

The coil looks like 2R.

2R = February, 1960 according to the Date Coding thread

PostPosted: Sat Aug 02, 2014 12:33 am    Post subject: RHD Pedals Reply with quote

Hi,

Looking for some advice please to add RHD pedals, my existing floor pan although original has had later pan halves welded in so looking to restore.

Images show my existing pan old LHD pedals and RHD pedals I picked up today.

1. Does anyone have details of RHD pan and mountings?
2. Are these repair panels available, ideally not full halves?
3. Does anyone have details on RHD pedals?
4. Any ideas for where to source some RHD pedal bits I am missing?

those pedals will bolt to the pan mounts in your car, but they are 58-66 pedals (as is the pan section. edit the pan might be 67 or later???).

below are oval pedals and pan section. (ex 56/7 in this case) so will be closer to looking "correct"

What are the two pairs of captive nuts for? Is one for the pedal assembly and one for the stop or are they both for the pedal assembly?

Do you have the dimensions for the plate welded under the floor please?

Cheers,

Dave

the outer pair of bolts takes the pedal mount bracket and the brake pedal stop plate and the inner pair just the clutch stop plate.

i'll get you the dimensions and edit the post.

sorry that took so long. I hope you can read my awful dimensioning.

all measurements are only approximate, I was trying to measure a plate under a car. please check the dimensions against your pedals before welding everything together.

i think the plate is 1.5mm thick. sorry my callipers are elsewhere so I couldn't get a 100% accurate measurement.

the weld nuts are 14mm square nuts. measurements are to the bolt centre line, I kept getting 19mm as the spacing of the weld nut c/l to the edge of the plate, but the dimensions don't add up hence I didn't add it to the drawing. I think it should be 18.5mm.

the lip depth is from the pan to the bottom lip of the plate.

the plate locating dimensions are to the edge of the tunnel bottom plate and the edge of the front cross member bottom plate.

roger, I haven't forgotten you, pics on their way soon.

PostPosted: Thu Sep 04, 2014 2:14 am    Post subject: Pedal renovation Reply with quote

Hi,

Managed to get my RHD pedals (thanks Bug boy), they're appear to be in good solid condition but wanted to check;

1. How to evaluate pedal condition / slop and recommended renovation work / techniques ?

2. Best way to achieve authentic paint finish ?

Was hoping to wire brush and paint but really want to be sure all working well.

Thanks,
