Restoring the chassis,a decent amount of work due to the extensive damage received to the undercarriage.
Our first objective is to save as much of the original material as possible, where that is not possible we remake the panel to factory specifications and graft in.

Continued...

lots of hammering and dolly work to remove all the dents/damage in the floors.

We used a skim of lead where there was no access after pulling out the panel damage ,particularly under the tunnel area.

last couple of photos show how the floor /car came in.

Really 'super dooper' job, fantastic to keep so much original and the floor damage repaired so well. The effort to do that must have been considerable I remember so well the time I spent on my 59 T2 underneath, keeping the original floors and battery box.

Nothing like original providing, the job is done as well as you have managed to do on your car.

Thanks for the update, look forward to the next one Wink

What kind of sander do you use on the skin? For that matter, I'm sure we all would like to see the tools you use, please, and how you use them, more importantly.

Wow!! Not much more I can say. You should be very proud to have produced that finish. Amazing work and it seems almost a shame it will be painted.

Great photo's. Those should help so many trying to do a similar job themselves. Thanks for the posting that takes time as well!!

Just wondering when you will do the paint and then the undercoating? This is such an impressive build. I wish you would move to LA and help me! Btw: any recommendations for a painter out here would be great

Give Shane East at Jim East & Son in Orange a holler. Jim (who may be retired or semi-retired) did the paintwork on my Roadster back in 1990 and it still looks fantastic--the car is driven and is no garage queen. Shane is ably carrying on the tradition from feedback I have received more recently.
Good luck--
