heavy, heavy smoke... I just got back today. Tioga Pass was closed yesterday and smoky from Lake Tahoe down to (Oh what the hell is the name of the town just north of Bodie Ghost Town with two gas stations...????). My bus was covered in ash driving thru there two days ago... I do not like Yosemite as much as the surrounding area. I mean, of course it is absolutely beautiful, but it is a parking lot and over crowded. There are many more areas down the east side on 395 that I prefer... Here is the sunset from near Mount Whitney last night... safe travels... and may the smoke in your bus be the good kind!

Thanks for the info.
SWEEEEEEET photo! |

75% contained.. was the report this AM.
Thankfully some sub-tropical moisture arrived over the long weekend.. kept humidity high and gave the fire-fighters a much needed break. _________________ -89 GL Westy, SVX.. finally.

As of this morning Mariposa and Oakhurst are smoke free. Can't say from personal experience but Yosemite Valley is not too bad. |

Trip begins in 2 days; finally. Just had Heckman do a safety check on the camper and all is well. This will be the longest trip in the Eurovan after picking it up in June; my gf said the Syncro Westy is jealous... I think my VW addiction is rubbing off on her
Thanks for all the info and recommendations. |

If I head north on 395 up to Mt. Whitney, do I need to drive all the way back south to 155 and go around if I want to get to the 180 into Kings Canyon?
Is their a better route? |

Yes, you do need to go down and around. There are relatively few passes across the midpoint of the Sierra Nevada. _________________ '90 Westy "Kurt" |
