Hello everybody. First post but a frequent visitors to the Site. I have a small question. I recently have come across a stock I believe 73 914 motor complete for 150 dollars. Now I have a 73 std beetle. I was thinking about picking this up so I can rebuild it to put into my bug. Now the motor has been sitting for a year but I was wondering if 150 is a good price. I do plan on checking it out before I purchase. Any advice would help.

Thanks in advance,
Hood

Even if its a 1.7L...which longevity wise is just about the best of the bunch....and even if the heads are bad.....as long as the case is good and uncorroded and if it has a usable crank and rods....its worth $150. Thats a decent price for an unknown core motor.

If its rather complete...with sheet metal intakes and other goodies...that a very good price.

If its locked up....and the level of damage is unknown....it may be worthless.

Be sure you check out what is required to put this into a bug (upright conversion).

What is the case #? Ray

Hey Ray,

Thanks for the reply. I have been doing research on what it take to convert it to the bug. I am going to go and check it out in the next day or two. I wanna see if it spins freely or actually how complete it is. I may just snag it. Its almost like going to the casino. Only i enjoy this more.

Thanks,
Hood
