Last night I got some additional photos from my Body and Paint guy. They had been very busy yesterday.

Here's a comparison shot of the front end damage that they pulled back into alignment and then dollied straight.

The wheel well has been welded in. The front apron is now straight and back in the right place and the front of the car is all back in alignment. Then the car was pulled into the paint shop and they primed the Body.

I won't be cutting any corners AlienJohn, I've come too far and put my heart and soul into this Bug.

It's actually getting renamed from "Pistol Pete".

My late father was called Norman, and his nick name was "Stormin Norman"

So I figure, the Bug should be quite quick once we have the engine built, so "Stormin Norman" should be quite appropriate.

Dropped off the replacement front left fender today to my bodywork and paint guy, he should get it test fitted this week and then into primer.

Took the opportunity to see the new replacement panel in the wheel well area. Here's what it looked like originally (pretty screwed up)

They drilled out the factory spot welds and fitted a new replacement wheel well. Needs some dressing up and seam sealer then we are good to go.

They also addressed the wrinkles in each of the front wheel wells which were part of the front fender bender. They had to cut out the box section each side, dolly and hammer it flat, then weld the box section back in.

Pretty pleased with the results.

Just some minor items to address, there's a couple of fender nuts that need welding in. Primer the replacement fender, final blocking, then final paint.

Fingers crossed, my Bug should be out of paint and back home in two weeks. Then it's MEGA photo dump time as the Body rejoins the pan.

So far so good. Are you going with a single stage or two stage, base coat-clear paint?

It's not a standard VW paint color. It's actually Hyundai Sonata Venetian Red Metallic.

The sides of the Bug will be painted in Honda Civic Modern Steel Metallic.

With a bit of Luck, I'll be posting pics of the combo color later this evening Smile

Slight delay on the paint. The Bug was rolled into the paint booth, then they realized the heater channels were still full of media from the media blasting. It took them a couple an hour to clean it out before they were ready to start laying paint.

Here's the metallic gray being laid down:

Still not quite finished in the paint booth. The gray and red paint was laid down yesterday. Today is color sanding, then moving onto the final clear coat over the top. In the last two pics, you can see the contrast between the red and gray. Once the clear goes down, the paint will be all shiny again. It's very close now!

Oh man,
I wish my wife could clean up that nice Smile

You know, I had my questions when I read your red/gray idea,
but those are the best I've seen. Simply beautiful.

It's funny how the light plays with the colors. When I first saw the red, I thought, oh, no it's way too red. Then we dragged the hood and deck lid outside into the Sun and it darkens considerably.

Then when my painter color sanded it, the gray and red both got darker, and then when the Clear coats were put on, it really popped.

I'm very pleased with it. It was worth the wait.

I admire anyone with the patience to do such an extensive job and have it look better than factory.
I have a 74 Standard Bug and am interested in your dash gauges. See pic.
have you come across any wiring diagrams during your work that cover the voltmeter and the oil temp gauge.
I am now following your progress with interest and a little bit of envy.
Best Regards

Wiring will start in maybe a month, have to do the headliner first, but If I come across anything that I think is useful I'll share it with you.

There's wiring diagrams in the technical section of the samba. Also don't be envious, I'm just a regular guy with no special talents, I just roll up my sleeves and get on with it, come join the fun Chris.
