Or something like this... suggesting both

Jerry-
realtime 4wd sounds a little too Hondalike for me.
ajdenette-
thanks for your time spent on that, I'll be going back to all these suggestions when it is time for paint.
Steve M.-
Time will only tell how this will affect the future of the Syncro T3. It certainly is nice to at least have it as an option. I also have a Syncro Westy 100% stock right now with only 110k on it. Knowing that there is an option for another drivetrain will allow me to drive it without the fear of wearing out a transmission that is becoming extinct.
Zeit-
I agree on the AWD script, I just ordered some more decal vinyl, I'll see what I can come up with.
I put on a pair of Gabriel 49215 Hijackers Air Shocks in the rear, 60psi brought the back end up level with the front. The ride is still very nice.
I am still driving it with no tach or speedo so I am not sure on how many miles are on it yet. I'd guess around 500-600? This weekend it took us rafting in VT. |

That's awesome, and certainly some proving miles under the wheels.

It's a "hope it don't pop top". An option on all the Audi Quattro vans. |

Wow! I saw this van in person the other day and was quite impressed. The ride height alone was killer nevermind what is "under the hood". Andrew thanks for taking a look at "Latte" for me this week. I am feeling enormously confident you will get to the bottom of the problem for me after reading this forum. I cant WAIT to roadtrip in my Westy again!!!!

Nice meeting with you Michael. We'll get that 2.2 running fine soon.
I spent some time hooking up my Passat gauge cluster, I can finally see how fast I am driving and how fast the engine is turning. As you can see,it still needs some work but it is getting there.
The night view is great

3k mile update. The Quattro van is awesome. No problems at all with any of the mechanical parts. Still running, driving, shifting, sounding great.
Today it drove us to Das Laufwerk VW show and octoberfest at Hunter mountain NY.
That is my 1970 Benelli Dynamo, the perfect sidekick to a Vanagon. It's a road legal mini bike that easily fits in the side or rear compartment. |

Andrew
What you really need is road trip to Syncrofest next year. We're a friendly group, we can park you next to Stephan and The GMW boys the 1.8T guys.
I know it's along trip ,but it would save a lot of gas of all of us driving out to see your creation.
Just a thought keep it mind ,we have stuff for the little ones and finer sex is always welcome.

Hi Stacy, It's funny you mention this. I have actually been saying it would be cool if we could do a non-stop cannonball style drive from NY to CA, than do the whole Syncrofest thing. I would fly back and have the van shipped back to save time. What better way to see how it perform on the street and offroading?

lol. I was going to offer to co-pilot the cannonball run to Syncrofest, but it looks like you have some other options in mind |

Quattrosyncro turns the first clutch into a cloud of smoke!
As I mentioned in a different thread, I blew the clutch offroading. This however was just a used clutch I had laying around that I had used, very likely it had over 200k on it. I went with just a used clutch because I was trying to keep all costs to a minimum seeing as I was not even sure Quattrosyncro would work out.
I considered using and after-market high performance clutch but decided against it because I was pretty sure a good stock clutch would work out and I really wanted to keep the stock dual mass flywheel.
This is the first thing that has taken the van out of service since I got it going in June.
The clutch job took about 4 hours, I am happy to say no other modifications to the drivetrain were needed, It is all working very well.
Quattrosyncro was still able to move itself via the winch, I used it to pull the van out of the woods and onto my trailer.
Fried clutch for breakfast anyone?
back in service, now with much more clutch grip. |
