I saw one of these eat a car at our local ski hill many years ago. I love it, but I don't think it will fit through my gate into the back parking yard.

My friend builds these... http://mtenorthidaho.com/ We have been discussing the possibility of mounting one of his 60" models on a bug or bus. He's a VW guy, too.

My friend also builds an articulated flame thrower that mounts to the back of a tractor for burning ditch weeds and row crops. I can't find a video link right now, as I can't recall the name. Not sure how well it would work, but it would be a lot of fun and a good way to stay warm in the winter.

EDIT: Found this... http://www.ramflame.com/index.html No video unfortunately.

Looks like a good machine, but I don't think track drive is in my future.

I had not planned on a track drive either when I got this one about 5 years ago, but I am glad I did. Sometimes I have to load it in the back of my truck to help blow out some friend's driveways and it makes it very easy to load and unload using a "ramp". It is also very manuevable (since it has "power steeering") when you are trying to get close to something (like a parked car or right next to the garage doors or storing it in the garage). Here a 20" snowstorm, although rare, does happen and it munches right through that.

Thanks for all of the input everyone. Please keep it coming. I plan to purchase soon, as prices will soon be at full retail.

I am currently leaning toward a Husqvarna 24" that a good local business has leftover from last year. Also found a very nice Honda tracked version on Craigslist that I may check out this weekend. It is expensive, but might well be the last one I ever buy.

I have to admit I've never ever been dissapointed with any Honda power equipment. You pay a bit more but it's engineered to work/last better than just OK and be easy to fix if it ever does need repairs, what's your time out in the snow yanking on that starter cord worth?

Trust me, that thought has crossed my mind.

Though not a snow blower. I recently bought a Honda pressure washer. Best choice I ever made. The Honda wins hands down over any other small engine I've owned.

I agree, Honda power equipment is nice....but I can honestly say I have never once pulled the recoil on my snowblower. I plug it in, hit the button and off we go. Whatever you buy, make sure it has a starter on it....

In November of 2009 I bought this snowthrower: http://www.troybilt.com/wcpics/TroyBiltUS/en_US/products/31AH64Q4766_2_product_medium.jpg

It is a Troy-Bilt. It has electric start (it's great), heated handle-grips (useless as you are wearing gloves anyway), 6 forward gears, 2 reverse gears (needs 3 or 4 rev. for long driveways), 24" wide opening I think, tires that make a "track" obsolete, at least in my experience (S.E. Mich.), it even has a headlight that keeps falling out of it place.

I foolishly bought an extended 3 year warranty. I've only used the thing 4 times in the 4 years since I bought it. 3 times the first winter (09-10) and one time about a week & a half ago.

I bought it because I live on a main highway and the county plows bury my driveway entrance. I also damaged the trans cooler lines and the exhaust on my car trying to crash through the piled-up snow. I figured it was time to buy my first snowthrower. It is a great machine and I would recommend it to anyone. In Nov. of 2009 it cost me $899.00 at Lowes, I have no idea what they cost now.

I've had a gas stabilizer in it for the last several years and I maintain it and start it up in the summertime to let things get flowing and working.

It started up and ran great for the hour or so that I used it so far this winter. As much as I don't really want to have to use it, I am happy that I have it when I need it. Kind of like a gun Wink .

I ended up buying a Husqvarna 12527HV. If it ever snows more than a couple of inches here this winter, I'll let you all know how it works. For now, it is just sitting in the shed looking pretty. My skiing friends are accusing me of causing our lack of snowfall by spending a thousand bucks on a new machine. At least I didn't spend several thousand on a snowmobile. Yet.

Mine looks like this...

In fact, since I got such a early start I was able to help out the neighbors and get their driveways cleaned up too

I was going to knock them down with the shovel, but was afraid of the hazard it would create..... so I'll wait 'til next year to do that
