And when you go back to the track, skip the water and the burnout - they don't help with street tyres, in fact can make things worse. _________________ There has only ever been one man who was perfect, and they nailed Him to a cross. |

nice build for sure. I have a sort of generic question, but since you posted the HP/torque curve how do you use that chart to determine the optimum shift points for this car for best acceleration? Peak torque is pretty early. Would you just ride that high flat torque curve and shift just before it drops off? I want to set my shift light to correspond with dyno testing (when I get that done |

You will feel the car stop accelerating hard and just be making noise. In my circumstance, I shfted at 5000rpm. On the dyno sheet my HP started declining at 5000rpm. But drive the car and see what is best. I could had have had better track times if I shifted sooner |

Not yet. Still working on my manifolds. I want to drive the car so the small yet vibrant and kick ass displacement engine goes back into the car. This time a 1679cc |

well at least learning the lesson the hard way didnt cost you too too much. Everyone on samba who recommends single springs should read this post.
Single springs are for stock cams.
Unless you run some super wild single, you are best off just doing duals on any engine with a performance cam or that is intended to be driven in a spirited fashion.
Biggest problem over the time that performance engines/cars have existed is that people run not enough valve spring.
Even manufacturers often dont put enough spring in and then the aftermarket folks (like myself) see the massive damage it causes and we up the spring pressure and cure all the issues the car had in the past.
Run inner and outer springs and put a rev limiter on it that matches your cams power band.
Done deal. Safe and reliable.

I have been very fortunate to be surrounded by such amazing friends. The insight and the dialogue that we have had in regards to this build had been impeccable. The 1641cc has become a 1679cc. The wealth of knowledge and bouncing ideas off each other, is what friends strive to attain. Here is an image of the pre-port work.

Well... the intake ports came out a little larger than planned. Regardless, they are looking good. Yesterday I put in about 5 hours and another hour this morning bringing the total time to 13 hours. I will post some pictures at a later time. Almost finished |

In this picture you will notice the chambers have not been touched, but look down the intake valve (left) i am almost finished with the intake port. Looking down the exhaust valve i cut away to help smooth out the bend
I started unshrouding the intake valve (bottom intake).
this is before and after picture of the exhaust port.

The other night I put about three hours into the chambers. Almost ready to have the valve guides put in. |

Not sure if I shared this with you, but I updated the cam. I will be running a Norris 355S. I may have finished the chambers. I am shooting for 100hp, but will probably end up with 80hp. since it is a daily driver, compression will be around 9.5:1. |

I finally finished the heads. The intake ports look good/okay, port shape looks good/okay and the exhaust ports came out bitchin. I am going work on the manifolds today. I will be surprised if motor gets out of its own way. But enough writing about, now it's time to do it. |

I had a chance to port my manifolds, disassembled my carbs to clean and rejet them. It was a very productive day. Now my heads are going to be sent out to get a valve job |
