Having gone through Montana several times on both blue highways and interstates I've not found any remarkable restaurants at all. In fact, restaurants are few and far between!

I hope I've just been unlucky and someone will enlighten us with a gem.

On your way from LA to Phoenix jump off at exit 17 on the 10 and have some "Silly Al's Pizza"- If you wish to make an ass of your self - they have Karaoke
sometimes Embarassed Embarassed Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

If you want to stir em up just ask about local politics.

Phoenix AZ, El Norteno

Tiny little place right on a corner downtown, cash only, excellent food and a local favorite. They have a little covered patio outside for the only seating.

Almost forgot my out of town favorites

The Burrito Lady
938 Eubank Blvd NE
Albuquerque, NM 87112

The real deal. Be careful if you dont like spicy food, her green chili sopapilla made my wife cry, not just tears literally sobbing. If you think you need to prove your machoness order extra hot and watch your chest hair fall out.

Golden Pride BBQ Chicken & Ribs
3720 Juan Tabo Blvd NE
Albuquerque, NM

The breakfast burritos are addicting and the western hash browns are the bomb!

Village Bakery
814 2nd St
Davis, CA 95616

Best Pizza in town. This is the bakery itself, there is also a restaurant owned by the same person that is also great if you want a sit down meal (403 G Street)

The Hotdogger
129 E St #1A
Davis, CA 95616

Literally a hole in the wall but the best dogs out there. For me a double yellow mustard dog in its delicious simplicity is all that is needed (along with a side of potato salad). The snap of the natural casing dog and the freshness of the bun is what sets them apart.

Taqueria Guadalajara
640 W Covell Blvd Ste E
Davis, CA 95616

The only authentic Mexican food in town. Burritos are huge and they are not stingy on the meat.

Ficelle
5C East Main St.
Winters, CA 95694

If you like tapas this is a great place!

Buckhorn Steak House
2 Main St.
Winters California

If you need a bit fancier place for dinner and love great steaks this is the place. Not looking to spend a ton of cash? Hit the bar and the order from the menu and watch a game while you are at it.

P utah Creek Cafe
1 Main St.
Winters CA 95694

This place is owned by the owner of the Buckhorn and is right across the street. Best place for breakfast and lunch in town, and the brick oven pizza aint no joke.

Winters is a great small town. There is a Classic Car Show, second Tuesday of each month: 5 p.m. downtown Main Street where some really nice rides show their stuff and the Buckhorn sells the best BBQ beef sandwiches for cheap!

YES, YES !!
To both Mike's and Congdon's !!
Haven't tried the other two yet, but I will now, when I'm up that way again.

Also in Wells, it's not so much of a restaurant as a roadside take out joint but the "Clam Shanty" has some of the best seafood around, and the prices are very reasonable compared to the fancier "sit down" places in town.
I think there is a local ordinance in Wells that says every seafood restaurant has to have "Shack" or "Shanty" in the name. Smile

Clam Shanty
198 Post Rd
Wells, ME 04090
http://www.yelp.com/biz/clam-shanty-wells

I racked my brain for a Rhode Island place and I remembered this place I went many, many years ago, and it was phenominal !
The buffet at the Nordic Cafe in Charlestown R.I. is lengendary round these parts :

The Nordic Cafe
178 E. Pasquiset Trail
Charlestown, RI 02813
http://www.nordiclodge.com

I remember it being expensive at the time (about $50 back then), but the buffet includes all you can eat and includes prime rib, Alaskan king crab and whole Maine lobsters !!
Yes, all you can eat prime rib, king crab, and whole Maine lobsters (extra butter please) !! Shocked
Bring your own Defibrillator ! Very Happy

I just looked at the website and saw the price of the buffet is up to $91 Shocked , but still if you are up to the challenge it's not impossible to break the bank gorging out on all you can eat whole lobsters and king crab ! Very Happy
Not someplace you'd go every night, but just look at the video on the website before you say $90 is too much . Very Happy

The Clam Shanty is newer, it used to be the original location of one of the bigger joints in town.

Rhode Island is a no-brainer.
1) Find the shittiest looking, run-down shack on the side of the road.
2) enjoy amazingly good sea-food.

Be sure to ask for clam-cakes! No one outside of RI and southeastern MA knows what these are, but believe me, they are delicious and artery clogging. If you're lucky you can find a place that does "Portuguese-style" clam cakes that have little bits of Linguisa in them along with the clams.
AMAZING. Chad's on Rt. 6 is a prime example, but that's in MA. Seekonk methinks?

If you ever find yourself in Panama City, Florida you really need to check out the Tally-Ho drive in. This is a real deal, old school drive in that's been in business since right after WWII. I remember going there as a kid and the car hops hanging the tray on the side window of the car, the neon lights and other really bitchin' stuff. They used to have a swing set for kids that were to restless to sit in mom & dad's car and I used to love swinging on the swings there.

Last time I was in Panama City, they were still in business and hadn't changed a bit. The burgers are great and the shakes are AWESOME.

I can't find a website for them (not surprising, they are OLD SCHOOL) but I did find them on Trip Advisor:

In the Kansas City area, Oklahoma Joe's is the place to go for Barbecue (although there are a couple of dozen really good BBQ places in the city.) The original Oklahoma Joes is located in a gas station ......

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

They have a couple of additional locations, as well, now (more upscale). Yahoo had an article on them a few weeks ago and proclaimed them to have the best BBQ ribs in America. Be prepared to stand in line and wait.

Speaking of BBQ, in the Wichita, Kansas area, the best Barbecue is located in an old garage on Washington Street (355 N. Washington) and it's called B-C Barbecue. Be forewarned, the atmosphere is very much a "dive." And they are only open for lunch. And when they run out of something, they are out. But, otherwise, a great place and a great value.
