Well I wasn't really happy with how the side panel had worked out so I decided to have an other go. I picked up some waste metal , happen to come across a big U shape which was handy. and made a simple press of sorts. I had a little porta power Body Repair Kit (4 ton) that I bought years ago to do one job and never used it again.
This is a test piece, I went a bit far but it but it looks a lot smoother that last weeks effort.
I was happy enough with the result that I went ahead with it.
Welding panel on
I little worried about the corners but one step at a time. Not to worry Its only a toy after all. _________________ Tony C

Got the other side done. Not going to bother with cargo doors.I don't think the kids will notice, and I want to get it done for christmas. The rest of the body is going to be tricky so its going to take some time. Not sure whether to bend the corners before or after I press the rib in to it. Also looks like i'm going to have to reduce the size of the deck lid or the hinge will fall in the middle of the rib.

After a little rest I started back in to the kids kart. I wasn't sure how to go about the rear corners. In the end I decided to make the corner with out the rib then fab the rib and weld it on after.
bending the sheet around the frame.
screwed on at first
cut out the wheel arch
all welded on.
then a bit of paint.
I will fab the second corner then move on to making up the ribs and tacking them on. _________________ Tony C

awesome.
I'm glad to see the roof frame is bigger now, it looked a bit dangerously close to the face before. |

A few little bits done. I put the wheels back on to have a look at the stance.
I'd like it a little lower but wouldn't be getting the wheels on any lower.
Testing the VW sign
Trying out a few vent options

I got the engine lid pretty much done. I need to dress the welds but happy enough.

I have now made the rear door and welded the ribs on to the rear corners. some good some bad.
This side has turned out very badly. I knew the rib in the center panel was tilted slightly but I thought I might get a way with it. BUt it now looks like I will have to remove the rib and redo the side panel and then fab the rib again. Oh well two steps forward one step back.

The rear window opening might have to be made a little bigger to look right.
Then started to make gutters up and tack them on.
