Starting a build thread on a 52 splitwindow sedan for a customer. It's a pretty solid car and missing just a few parts, the biggest being a correct 52 engine case. I found a 49 engine and that might get installed if a 52 case cannot be found. Need to locate a left front fender, the other three are orig ones. the orig hood is long gone, so we will be taking a 54 hood and making it look like a correct 52 using my friends 52 hood as a sample. We have a rear apron and rear bumper mounts from Wolf parts. Pan has already been powder coated semi gloss black, orig trans has been done by Rancho and the orig front beam is being rebuilt by George Schmidt (The Butcher Shop) Will try to post when I can. It can be diffucult with several restorations going on and bunch of steering wheel restorations too. Hope you enjoy.

Are you looking for a particular month's engine in 52 or just any 52 engine?

Yes, since a '49 is completely different.

49 is gonna be an aluminum case. 52 will be magnesium among other obvious differences.

Azure blue, or dove blue? Azure would be correct.

L31 Dove Blue looks to be a bus-only color.
L32 Dark Blue was used only on standards through May 30, 1951.
L36 Azure blue was used on deluxe splits from April 1, 1951-February 28, 1953.

Thank you for the information. I learned something new about dove blue and azure blue.
Good people here on the samba who help out fellow sambanistas. Owner of the car received birth certificate and it calls for L 37 medium blue. He will decide what color he wants.

Some progress on the 52. Work at body shop has been slow but they are moving along. Owner of car purchased a 52 long block from Joe Ruiz that is month correct for this car. Hunting down some parts to make it complete. Front end almost finished, then can start assembling chassis. Here are pics.

Progress on 52 has been slow. I have been searching for parts and body shop has been overwhelmed with other projects Crying or Very sad Body shop is now blocking car first time. Maybe will have some color very soon. George Schmidt at "The Butcher Shop" built the front end. He did a great job on it with attention to detail. Rancho did the crash box tranny. Will be starting to assemble chassis shortly. Have been getting parts plated, polished and rebuilt the last few months. Here are some pics of progress at body shop.

Thank you for encouragement. The owner wanted to install a 3 spoke pealit banjo wheel and rising sun/moon horn button. I found him an NOS button and a wheel that needs some love. I am going to make a mold and recast the outer rim of the wheel and will be able to do that to other wheels once mold is finished. I still need the center hub for horn ring. I know Brezelwerks makes it and hope Gary can help me out with it.

It's the angle of the pic. I also thought they were in wrong position but once we installed the brackets and housings onto fenders, they lined up correctly.
