Have to ask, why 2 manifolds & why is one black & the other not? I do see that one is jacketed & the other not. Just interested/curious.

The manifolds were bought from John Henry. The non jacketed one is going on a 49 motor and the jacketed one on this 52. I will be giving manifold a black coating when the time comes.

Not much to report on 52 but this what I have been working on lately. 1950 splitwindow. Got it roadworthy and resprayed the rear fenders, deck lid, tailights and semaphores, as they were incorrect on car. Also installed correct bumpers and Bosch euro headlight assemblies. Orig motor is umknown and car has a very good running 48 motor in it. Car came from back east and was stored for many years. Owner will now be able to enjoy it on weekends and car shows that are near him. I will now be going full steam on his 52 split now.

This looks like the Hoffman '50 Pete Bose sold to Chuck Pisconski around 1990. Very complete and original car, except for the engine. I don't remember the gray and red seat covers, though.

This was the twin to Rene Rondeau's first '50, which was reportedly parted out in the 1970s. First split VW I ever saw, when it was still white.

The only info I know about car it was for sale here on samba and my friend bought it this past Jan. It was shipped from PA and had been stored several years. At the time of purchase, it had heart tailights, 56 deck lid, seal beam headlights and later euro bumper blades. It is missing the left driver side door panel, still has nice orig headliner. Car is a nice driver now and owner is going to keep it like that.

Looks a bit red for Bordeaux. They quit painting cars Bordeaux Red in April, 1951. Right on.

Pete's '50 had the correct lights, bumpers and rear sheet metal when he sold it.

Any evidence of white overspray anywhere? There are not a lot of Hoffman '50s around. Rene had his '50 resprayed the original Bordeaux Red around 1968 and the car's last known location was in PA. If this is Rene's original '50, this car represents one of the earliest known efforts to restore a split-window VW in the US. Glad to know it'll be in good hands.

I have not posted any progress on 52. I decided to buy one of Jason's (The Resurrection Project) rottiserie dollies to get a better job done underneath and also for the 56 ghia that is also being done. I have to say, he make a very nice unit and now both cars will be that much better for it. All engine sheet metal is at powder coaters and intake, heater boxes and muffler are getting ceramic coated. Long block has been built and all components to motor have been rebuilt/restored. Will post progress on that once I get items back.

It's just you. Seeing a split from this angle is very uncommon and can be startling….LOL Laughing

The L51 (maroon) 1950 split was only 20 miles from my house here in Pa. I think it originally came to Pa from New England. Maybe Connecticut. The story goes that this car had an engine fire very early in it's life and the engine was replaced by an older 1948 engine out of a junk yard?? I think the rear fenders were damaged and the deck lid?? It was sold once in Pa and then moved on. Nice rust free car if it is the same car. Tim

Went to body shop today and body is almost ready to spray. I found a couple of areas that still need to be addressed but hopefully in a couple of weeks there will be color on shell. I had bought a repro single tip muffler fron Jacek and had it ceramic coated however I had a chance to buy a german single tip muffler that had been in storage for some time. I got a tip and bracket from Mika and now will get it ceramic coated. Now we have a german muffler for 52. Will have more updates, as I have been getting a lot done to it.

Owner dropped off rebuilt 25 hp long block (Jun 52) that was rebuilt by Joe Ruiz. I am mocking up sheet metal to make sure it fits right and get everything straight, then going to spray in in black urethane.
