No, but I can bring my Peiseler 261 protractor tool if you want to give it a go in Cayucos. |
Just playin' Phil.
Just did my run down and tightened everything up in the engine bay. Good thing because some clamps on my fuel lines were super loose. |

Me, too. I fixed the whistling genbelt. I replaced the belt with an un-cogged version, and also replaced the pulley with one bought from another Samba member-- less wear/grooves that might have made some noise.
Still worrying about the very recent presence of an oil light at idle. Hasn't done that in many years and now I'm driving 500 miles in two days.
Wish me luck, fellas, I may need it!

Is it at hot idle- and does it go out as soon as you blip the throttle? _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Drove mine to the Solvang Show today. About 75 minutes from my house. At times I was a nervous wreck and other times relaxed and really enjoying the cruise.
On the way home the wind was blowing 15-25 mph. I took a back road for a while, but eventually got back on the freeway. The car did really well in the head and side winds. (Glad I wasn't in my 66 Bus!)
When I got back to San Luis Obispo, my oil light was flickering a little as well. A small tap on the accelerator and it went away. I'm sure it was pretty warm. Would a different oil make a difference. 10-40? My motor is a low compression 2074cc stroker with 400 miles on it.
Back to the rally and temperatures:
On the Friday cruise, it will be a medium speed cruise uphill to Paso. 55 mph max. Most of the climbing will be at 35-40 mph max. It will be in the high 70s on the way up. On the way down, it will be in the low 90s. Really nice VW weather! (According to the 7 day forecast).
For some reason, the forecast for Cayucos next weekend is a high of 86 on Saturday! Wow- If that holds, it will be pretty amazing. _________________ Tom Reay

Sounds like your cars going to do great on this drive Tom. What a way to break that engine in.
I filled my car up after checking all connections etc in the engine bay and took it on a 20 mile cruise earlier. Noticed that it's leaking a bit of gas when full near the top of the fuel filler neck. Any ideas? I'm hoping it's an easy fix but the suns going down here so I'll have to check tomorrow when I can see better. |

Check your overflow hose. Might be old and brittle. In fact, all those rubber parts in that area should be checked and/or replaced. _________________ 1963 Notchback - Ruby Red

Yeah, inland forecast for SoCal is in the low 100s! Coast will be better, but if it's the santana winds, the coast will be warm, too. Paso hills can be very hot. But it's cooling off at night, so morning drives will be cool and nights a bit nippy. |

That's what it is. It's a bit cracked at the bending points. I may just replace it with some vinyl tubing instead of rubber in hopes that won't break down as quickly. |

Jim Adney sells a kit that solves this problem better than OEM. |

OC/LA people! We'll be meeting off the 405 at Palo Verde @ 4AM on Friday morning. Yes, 4:00AM. From there we'll be heading up the 405N to the 101. If you'd like to meet us at any point along the way, please post up on here or message me and I'll give you my cell phone number. That way if you're trying to meet us but run into a problem just call me or shoot me a text and we'll know to hang out for a few. For example, if you'd like to meet us off of the 405 at Palo Verde but you're running 10 minutes late, we'll know to wait 10 minutes instead of just leaving you behind.
See you soon! _________________ 1963 Notchback - Ruby Red

It looks like it's around 60 miles or so, so I'd say between 5-5:30AM? _________________ 1963 Notchback - Ruby Red

Sounds about right. Shoot me a txt when you are at the 101/405, and I can catch you along the 101 about 20-30 minutes later.
Planning on any stops along the way, or a straight shot to Cayucos? |
