Hi Andy
The Cayucos chamber of Commerce has a great list of hotels on there website:http://www.cayucosbythesea.com/hotel.html

Thanks Tom, I wasn't sure if Cayucos was going to be our "home base" like before. I believe last time we had a hotel in Atascadero, which was a fun drive but a slight trek. It will be nice to be closer to the action this year. I was thinking about camping, but now I think I'll find a hotel.

thanks for organizing this Tom and Scott!

The best thing to do, if you can swing it, is to come up Thursday. Try to be there by cocktail hour, maybe 7:30 at the latest. Last time we just gathered at a restaurant for diner and called it an early night, but it was fun. The cruse on Friday leaves around 10:00 or 10:30 and it's allot more fun if you haven't just driven 200 miles.

The drive on Friday is going to be up into the wine country, beautiful scenery on good two lane roads. Lots of oaks for shade. We may be able to set up a location for "Ralliers" to meet us up there as well. Perhaps in Paso Robles.

More later..

How long is the cruise on Friday?

My wife just booked our hotel but got it for Friday night and Saturday night... it takes about 3-4 Hours to get down there from San Jose, so if we left Friday morning, I'm not sure that we would make it in time for the cruise.

Looks like she booked the Seaside Motel.

The cruise is around a 100 miles.

I just thought of the idea of meeting in Paso today (Scott and I haven't discussed it yet), but if we had a stop at the Downtown Park we would be there around 11:30 - 12:00, so you could leave San Jose at a reasonable hour and do the second half of the cruise easy.

Saturday rooms seems to be difficult to find. Might have to buy a sleeping bag and a tent.

Yes, the dilemma for me is to figure out when the four legs of driving will be... drive up, Friday rally, Saturday rally, drive home. I am probably going to only hit one rally. And I'd like to make a caravan for the drive up or back (or both), so the timing of each rally is critical to determining what nights I will stay. We also have dog-sitting to set up. So I'm on hold with reservations until that is published.

I am SO looking forward to this, and want to be sure I can make it! Sounds like the event of the year for me.

Does the cruise head north or south from the meet up city?

I'm in Oakland and just trying to figure out if my car will make it down there and be good to drive Friday morning, haha.

Looks like we'll be going north both days -- to the Paso Robles area mid-day on Friday and lower Big Sur on Saturday -- so you might be able to meet up with us there. I'll be posting our planned itinerary this weekend but I need to confer with Tom first to make sure we're on the same page. Stay tuned!

More weekend details to come in the next day or so. I'm sure there will be groups of people driving to Cayucos each day, so caravanning should be no problem with a little coordination.

I know we are bugging you but we also probably don't realize how much work goes into planning an event like this, so in addition to the "hurry up" let me add a big "THANKS!"

Thanks for your patience Phil, and everyone. There are so many possibilities for this event and it's been a challenge to narrow it down to a final plan that we're sure we can deliver on. Getting close!

Here's some hotel info info Terri came up with today:

Listed in order of closest to Borradori Garage no room blocks made call soon, next week or by the end of July, can always cancel just ask for their policy

Cayucos Motel, 20 South Ocean Ave, Cayucos, 800-965-2699 or 805-995-3670
http://www.cayucosmotel.com
Thursday Oct 2, Friday & Sat Oct 3 & 4 $135 per night plus tax (Yes can stay one night for Saturday night ) call by the end of July, subject to availability
Trip Advisor rating # 5 of 10
Rooms small, simple dog friendly, spoke to Carletta (really nice) right now the entire motel ( about 10 rooms) is completely available… limited rooms with 2 beds, but I think has some sort of breakfast?

Sea Side Motel, 42 South Ocean Ave, Cayucos, 800-549-0900 or 805-995-3809
http://www.seasidemotel.com
Thursday Oct 2 rates $80- to $130 per night plus tax
Friday & Sat Oct 3 & 4 $95 to $150 per night plus tax (no one night only for Saturday night)
Trip Advisor rating # 1 of 10
Rooms small but clean and cozy (I have seen these rooms)

Cayucos Beach Inn, 333 South Ocean Ave, Cayucos, 800-482-0555 or 805-995-2828
http://www.beachinncayucos.com
Thursday Oct 2, Friday & Sat Oct 3 & 4 rate $115 per night plus tax one or two bed 1 or 2 persons ask for Soni ( a little hard to understand) ask for Type 3 Rally rate call by the end of July for this rate…. Subject to availability
For Saturday night only go to Trivago (book online) $115
Trip Advisor rating # 4 of 10
Haven’t see the rooms in rooms in person Rooms

I also found the Holland Inn which is North Morro Bay, they have 3 rooms with two queen beds for $69 a night that are available. North Morro Bay is only 4 miles away from Cayucos. There's other hotels there as well.

The Bella Vista RV Park is filled up for those dates, but you can get on a waiting list. I am on the waiting list, but since I have a small trailer (no pop outs) the manager put me on the top of the list and is sure that there will be cancellations by then. I know you can camp there, and they have showers, but you should call and verify they can accommodate you. (805) 995-3644

Other camping options are the Morro Strand State Park. It's in North Morro Bay, but it doesn't have showers and Morro Bay State Park. It's a little further away, but does have showers, and some hook-ups if you have an RV.

The sooner the better to make reservations, but there is still allot available.
That weekend is Morro Bay's Harbor Festival which is going to eat up some rooms, but hasn't yet.

Hope that helps!

There are also a number of possibilities on Airbnb. There's a house listed in Cayucos that might be good if a group of us get can together. Nice place, centrally located in Cayucos, lots of parking, and owned by a VW guy even. Anywhere from 4 to a maximum of 8 people could stay there a night. Price is pretty reasonable. If anyone's interested in going in on this send me a pm to let me know and I'll look into booking it.

Scott

Not even close Embarassed I'm trying to talk my wife into driving the 64 Notchback with 2 of the kids so I can drive the 62 Notchback with the third. Otherwise it's the 62 and the Passat.
