Well at 9:00 AM the Stork , I Mean Shipper dropped off my Meyers Tow'd that i picked up here off the Samba . Def needs some Work , But i cranked it up and drove it right off the shippers trailer. Has some minor cracks and has been repainted a brown cherry over the original metal flake silver , then i gave it a hosing and some paint came off the hood and off course it was metal flake green under that. Has an id tag hanging by one rivet # 1430
Has turning brakes which is a plus and sporting Buick rims! fenders are metal off a trailer I guess
Missing the towing arm but has whole where tube slid in.

It's not a problem until you run out of garage space......then you either need a 12 step program or a bigger garage.

Mark,
That number seems strange...like a Manx 2 number.
It should read something like TF560I922E
(Towd, Fiberglass, #560, I September 1969, Color 22E

Your steering e brake assembly is different than a stock Towd where the fiberglass body is cut open right behind where your ebrake is currently mounted and the brake handle bracket is mounted in the location where yours is mounted.

These are pretty straightforward to restore but it will keep your hands full.

Cris I asked Vince about it and he said some ID #'S were like that on the Tow'd after Bruce left the company.

Mark...cool. I did not know that they produced Towds after he left. That makes sense then.

What are your plans with this one?

Also, I sent Vince some pretty complete dimensions for the Tow Bar...not sure if he made one yet. He could forward same to you

Well i just got off the phone with Alexander at the Manx store and i think I am going to order the whole kit and Kabutle for the Tow'd and i think i might ship it off to Vince in NC , I want to have it done in a robins egg Blue.
I was just in my garage and noticed the fenders which are metal are welded to the drum brakes and a turning arm, so I don't know what that entail, also some rust on the the shock tower ,looks like its been re-welded and filled.

Marc
You can have them send it here, they have my address.

Did you order this piece?

http://www.meyersmanx.com/mmstore/store-towdfrontpanel.shtml

It strengthens the hood where you attach the Tow'd front fenders

Marc,

I have the same trouble with double posts. If no one responds to your double post, you can sign in and there will be a little X in the upper right hand corner of your post. You can edit it, quote it or delete it. I have made it a habit to look at my post and see if it doubled up. If it did, I immediately delete the extra post.

This is a fairly recent issue for my posts...Everett said it could be caused by using a tablet or phone .

That's a very nice Tow'd. I'm a bit surprised to see the ball joint front end on it. The plate on the front of the Tow'd chassis was made for the K/L pin front beam which has 5" center to center spacing between the tubes. Balljoint has 6" spacing, I didn't think it would fit.

The last 10 digit tag was put on a Manx 2 in Aug 70. After that the company went to 4 digit numbers on the tags. The first 4 digit tag, 1001 went on an SR. The 4 digit numbers appear to have just been put on bodies as they were built, regardless of their type. Approx 70% were Manxes, 20% Tow'ds and 10% SRs. The last known 4 digit tag, #1679 was put on a Tow'd. According to its original sales receipt which its present owners, Greg and Jeanne Lewin still have, it was sold on 30 July 1971. B.F. Meyers closed up shop for the final time on 13 Aug 1971.

I think the chrome rollbar will look great, I've seen them on a number of original Tow'ds. However just so you're aware, there are right and left side Tow'd stickers and they should both face forward.

Welcome to a very exclusive club , nice Tow'd , it looks like a good starting point .
But please loose those horrid front guards and wheels and adapters .
Are you going to do the car as a Tow'd or a Tow'dster .

Andrew

Well thanks , Yes it will be going through a complete restoration , The fenders are coming off , it will be a Towdster, as it will be driven on the street as well , laws require fenders and engine cover, In the process of ordering new replacement fenders and other parts , having roll bar chromed , and will be putting on vw widened smoothies with Mickey Thompson Mini mags and Baja ATZ tires

That is good information I have got a manx 2 #1675 we bought when the last bodies were auctioned off.
