Where all that comes together there are three sheets of metal in thickness. The piece that covers the end of the rocker section is actually folded off of the outer skin that is the inner wheel well but behind the mud plate. It folds out and has the hole for the wire tube. Part of the heater channel goes in about 6 inches behind that and I believe part of the A pillar/door frame also sandwiched over all that on the cabin side. I believe that piece continues on to make the inner wheel well and spare tire area. The fender goes onto the lower lip all that creates. I found a front A pillar clip from a wreck once and dissected it to see how things went together. Lots of overlaps for strength. |

Hi Folks
It's been a while since I was able to get to the Ghia - had to sell the notch and finish other projects, or at least move them along. I have now completed the restoration of the passenger-side rocker and will share a few pictures here.
I have removed the rusty bits and made a new piece that will form the backbone of the rocker:
and then the supporting piece:
and painted
and finally the new outer section (purchased from CIP) with the new wire harness tube in place
and that's it. I'm very pleased to be at this point, finally. Now I need to look at the driver's-side as it is in very poor shape.

Did you flare the end of the wiring tube like this?
If not you might consider flaring it. There is supposed to be a rubber gromet that fits over this flare to keep moisture from getting into the tube. I know Danny Gabbard was selling a bent piece of tubing with the end flared, but I don't see his ad anymore. |

Howdy
Well, yes, it has been quite a while since I last posted here. I got distracted. A friend of mine ended up with a '64 356 Porsche. He had been mis-lead about its state and what it needed to get it on the road. So, we moved the low light to his garage and his 356 to my garage and for the past 6 months I've been working on it. I have not created a thread here but there are pictures and part of the story at my site, here
http://www.sandersonmotorsports.com/Notch/Documents/Gerry's/Goal/index.html
(you'll have to copy the whole like I think)
It will be a while before I get back to the low light but I will.
Thanks for asking.

Hi Folks
Well, the Porsche has been completed and is with the owner and now I am back working on the Ghia. Today i moved the pan into my workspace to get a closer look at it. Here's what I saw
The passenger side is repairable but the driver's side is toast. My first job will be to clean the old undercoat crap off and then come up with a plan of attack. Should be interesting.

Hey
Worked not he pan today, using my lift as a work bench. Got both pans off with not too much of a hassle. I used the drawings from Evil Fiz to check the dimensions (there were a couple of small differences, like the position of the seat rails but over all a good match). With the pans off I will take the centre trunck and have it blasted before I fit and weld in the new sections.

Post, or PM me, the dimensions in questions so I may amend the drawing. If you found any other differences beyond the seat tracks please include those as well. The more samples we get the better resource it will be.
We're all in this together,

Hi Folks
A couple of short notes. I cut away all of the rotten pan material and today the freshly sand blasted core came back looking absolutely beautiful. And as a bonus they were able to remove that incredibly stuck choke cable. John told me that they tied the pan to one forklift and the end of the cable to another. They then slowly pulled the cable with the one forklift until it popped out - I've included a picture of it - as you can see it is now very long. I have no ideas why it was stuck but am very pleased and thankful to John and Randy at B & W for going the extra distance for me. Now I blow on some epoxy primer and prep the new pan halves to weld them in place.

So today I welded the new pan halves in place.
It's Canadian Thanksgiving so I'll wait until later in the week to fix and install the seat supports.
Then maybe I'll get back to the body itself.

Hi Dave, the pan is looking really good. I may have missed it, but where did you get the pan halves? Looking forward to seeing more progress as you continue to move along on this project.
Your buddy's Porsche turned out fantastic. Great job on that. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Hi Bob
Hey, it was great to hear from you. The pan halves came from Cal Imports, located here in Vancouver but I think they were fabricated in Europe. The fit was not too bad although some reshaping was required. The seat rails are in mixed condition, but I should be able to repair and weld them in place this week along with the jack inserts and the metal work on the pan will be done. At that point I can bring the shell back to the garage (it's still in storage at my friend Gerry's place) and get to work on it.
