Do Go Westy sell the Werksberg ones now? Haha, just kidding.

No, the GW ones are different Wink , not saying better to help preserve any future sales for Werksberg, but the GW ones will fit any Vanagon, regardless of interior or manual/power options as you can use the CNCed reliefs on the backside to cut out exactly what holes you need for your van.
The Grey offered by GW is a beautiful match of the Carat grey found on that vans interior parts.

Not sure why, but the furthest rear sections ordered from Werksberg are about half the thickness of the rest of the panels and do not stay flat like the thicker ones. Yes, one side is covered by the Westy cabinet, but not sure why that matters.
Again, not knocking Werksberg at all, just stating the facts from my personal experience.

Yes, all stock out.
No, not just drop in.
All new lines/ fittings for refrigerant / coolant, modifications to dash, all new air lines, controls and limited stereo choices....at a minimum.

Locker Syncro panel, if equipped will need streamlining of vacuum lines and connections.

I am making up the lines, attaching to a brand new compressor on a Zetec engine and relocating some of the parts of the system for better efficency and space savings.

Anyone who has completed an engine conversion into a Vanagon can complete this install.
It isn't hard, but time consuming if you want it to fit right and blow the coolest air possible.
Having HVAC tools is a must and understanding the cooling system, refrigerant line layout and the wiring of the Vanagon is a prerequisite for sure.
Once completed, I will offer installation of and more complete kits, with far better installation instructions for those interested.
WBX, Subaru and Bostig layouts will be supported, along with custom layouts for those with advanced skills and more specific needs.

I can also add this system to the stock AC layout.

All handles are going to be rekeyed and refinished by a VW locksmith.

Brand new seals...even with the Monsta buildup, no issues mounting the handles.

How would you get one unit to work for both heat and air conditioning without a coolant system? I'm really interested in a complete replacement of the hvac system in my aircooled '81.

My stock heat works well enough, but at some point in the future it may need to go if one or two of my upgrade plans come true. And about a month from now I'm going to really, really wish I had AC...

There are electric compressors available and will become more used with electric cars.
The price for the electric compressor at this point in time is over $1000.

I have sold 100's of those rear 1/4 panels and this is the first time I heard of that problem.

In my 33 years of making VW products, I have found VW owners to be very frugal.

With my 24 years of making Split & Bay ABS interior panels my experience shows that those all steel back supported areas can use .060" ABS panels to save the customer money & weight.

My PAIR sells for $40 plus shipping that are fully finished \
G westy $80 - $95 FOR A SINGLE Unfinished panel..... Hmmmm...

Maybe I'll offer the thicker panels and at the added cost too.

There's no such thing as grey ABS but there's another type of plastic that is available in colors.

But 10+ years ago I showed Splitty bus owners and half said it was the wrong shade of grey.... plus that Grey plastic (I did tests on it 10 years ago) yellows and breaks easy with age. Rolling Eyes

Plus the grey material costs more...

That's why I state in my ads how to paint them or have a body shop paint the panels with flexible bumper paints.
Then you get the right color, shade and it's very durable!

I still can't fathom buyers buying unfinished panels for that price instead of buying ready to installed panels for the same or less cost. Question

I offer 5 versions on the Vanagon door panels alone.... you get what you need with us!

PostPosted: Sat Jun 06, 2015 9:46 am    Post subject: Vintage Air hose kit Reply with quote

I will be offering a hose kit to mount the Vintage Air system.
Missing from the photo is one front to back line that I hadn't made up yet.
All hoses are Aeroquip, Eaton or Goodyear Galaxy.
All fittings coming directly from Vintage or Nostalgic Air.
Aluminum dryer.
A binary or tertiary switch will be used dependent upon the configuration in the van.

I will place an ad in the classifieds when kits are ready for DIY.
My plan is to first offer these installed.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

When making up hoses, especially the larger and more rigid hoses, you must have the orientation of the fitting in the proper direction before crimping.
If not, when installed, the hose will apply pressure to the connection.
This is not ideal for use in a vehicle that will be subjected to rattling, bouncing and shacking.

Yellow marks for fittings and orange for grommet/bulkhead locations.

Curious why you didn't go with the newer layout with the air box on the drivers side and eliminating the long corrugated air hose?

I'm just getting ready to strip out my old Group 6 Bostig/Zetec (upgraded w/2010 cradle) so I can install a zero mile Zetec and new ECU/wiring harness with the intention of mounting the air box on the left just so I can get rid of that long corrugated hose.
I like the idea of keeping the intake on the cool side of the engine, and hope that cool air coming down the passengers D pillar will help keep things cooler on the hot side.

Good question, and honestly the intake is not finalized yet, just laid out so to speak.
It makes sense to use the short side intake as the exhaust system is simplistically short and sweet.
I am focused on finishing the the AC install currently.
The intake will be revisited early in the week when I start the van for the first time.
